Do a "this is your life" party. Everything has to do with the year she was born.
Music from that year...
Her favorite food...
Decorate with Posters that came out the year she was born.
etc...you can really have fun with it!

Since 1976 was one of the hottest years on record why not go for a summer beach party, with all the trimmings.
You can order sand and in the 70s there were some classic tracks that you can download such as "|Goin' to Barbados" by Typically Tropical and "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas (albeit 1973 I think).
For your friend that is tee total a lot of the rum punch drinks (Planters Punch, Mai Tai etc) can be served without the rum so they need not be stuck with just cola and the likes.
Not only that but people getting in and out of taxis etc wearing nothing but swimsuits towels and similiar will always turn heads and be the scourge of the neighbourhood.
Enjoy

Have a 70's disco party. Everyone gets dressed up like hippie's or John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever. Listen to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, dance, drink, etc..

A 70's party! Break out the bell bottoms, mini skirts, and BIG afros! Play music from the 70's too!

I'd have to agree with the two others that suggested a 70's theme. That sounds like fun.

She was born in 1976 or 1977 then- so maybe a seventies theme would be good. Music and disco- fancy dress. Buffet style food- seventies style- fondue etc.
