I would definitely let her help out with the turkey. They will thank you when they aren't puking.

Considering what can happen when people eat undercooked meat, it's always better to leave the meat cooking to those who know how it's done!
If you feel bad for not being able to give her a cooking-free holiday, why not offer to help her fix it? Oh, and be sure to let her know how much you appreciate her doing this. A small thank-you gift would be a nice gesture--perhaps a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant, so she can have a meal prepared entirely by others.

As a vegetarian myself I would definately let a meat eater cook the meat and I would be quite happy to admit I didn't know how to cook it. I think it is much better to be honest than to pretend you can do it and have a disaster on your hands - especially for the most important meal of the year!

Think it was a good move, it's a bit daunting cooking a turkey but if you follow the cooking instructions on the label you should be fine.
Assuming you asked your partner's mum in the right way though, she's probably flattered that you want her help.

You did the right thing. If they want turkey, they should really respect that you are a vegetarian and make it themselves. It isn't hard to make a turkey anyways, so she prob doesn't mind. It is great that you are making the other food, and I'm sure she appreciates having someone else cook.

I've been a vegan since I was 17. I learned to cook after I was a vegan. No on in their right minds would want me to cook meat, even if I was willing! I think it's very magnanimous of you to allow anyone to bring meat into your house. I would never allow that. It's smart of you to ask someone else to cook something that you have no experience with. I hope they see it for what it is, a lack of knowledge and desire not to kill people.

No, you are not selfish. You are still doing the majority of the work. Find out how to cook a turkey from her if you like.

I had my family around this weekend (Christmas with my husbands family this weekend) - I am a veggie, my husband not -I think it's entirely reasonsible and right for someone else to do that - and I agree with past comments that you've been accomodating enough to allow it in your home full stop. Is your partner veggie? if so, why not have a fully veggie Christmas - the fact my husband is a meat eater is why I couldn't.

Definitely a good choice. I have told my husband that I don't enjoy coo king meat for him, because I use a lot of spices and love to taste what I coo k, but I can't with his food and am always paranoid that something will be wrong with it, as not getting done or getting to dry, etc. I thin k you made the right choice!

Why do you think you were selfish? It's not. Would you rather take the chance of making people ill? Besides you're vegetarian and no one has the right to expect you to handle meat.
