Is it true the HSV2 virus cannot be detected on the blood until you've had an outbreak? because they say only then they will find missing enzymes from fighting the virus. I say it because my ex BF tested negative and we were togheter 4 a year. Could he have given it to me evn though his test was - according to what I said in the beginning is possible, if it's correct.

Yes and no.

HSV (both of them) only show up after you had an outbreak, BUT can only be transmitted during shedding or an outbreak.

If he's never had an outbreak, he didn't give it to you.

My sister's friend had a blood test recently that showed positive for HSV-2, even though she's never had an outbreak. She is actively seeking a second opinion though, because she's never had an outbreak and because she's always used condoms and has had limited sexual experience. She realizes that condoms are not always effective, and that you only need to sleep with one person to get it, but it seems odd that her test would show up positive when you combine all three factors together.
