Don't believe her. The Army has lowered the standards for asthma.

Here you go for the truth. If you had it before age 13 you're home free to join up.

Good luck!

You can get in BUT if it's found out later on that you had asthma before you joined, you'll get a dishonorable medical discharge.

A suggestion would be for you to see your doctor & find out if you've outgrown the asthma or it's still a minor lung concern. Even minor/mild asthma can flare up & you'll need a resuce inhaler. Better safe than choking! If the doctor's test come back clear, then you could apply to the military without worries.

My son applied to join up and was refused on the grounds of his asthma. Personally, I think it depends on how many they want in that particular intake, and the general health of the applicants! Go for it, you may just be lucky and get in on a short intake. However, I would tell them about your asthma. The training period is tough and they need to know the medical health of you all, to ensure your safety during training. Good Luck.

The army will give you a physical before you are officially sworn in---if this is going to be an issue they will let you know. If you want to join the service I think that is great. This country should be very thankful for what the servicemen give up for our country. That being said, I would expect that if you do enlist now that you will most definetely be participating in a war and is that what you want to do? Would you be willing to give your life? Good luck no matter what your choice.

I don't know tbh... but good luck and farewell.

I mean they've relaxed rules for height and also now officially permit homosexuals in British Army don't they ?

Can't see why a little bit of Asthma would rule you out. Intelligence, cunning, courage, common sense... they are all elements needed as a UK solider too.

It sounds to me like you've grown out of asthma. When you apply, they'll do a medical anyway and if you're not fit enough they will tell you.

I am in the military and I know there are so many people that get in with more wrong with them than that!! Most of the time people just don't say anything! Even I was diagnosed with it and I have almost finished my enlistment!

Well if you do mention that you have had asthma...your chances of being able to enlist will be zilch...at least that is what happened to a girl at our church....

speak to an army recruiter regarding the physical that you have to past. and also get a thorough physical with your regular doctor. better yet tell him to refer you to a pulmonary specialist.
