Reciently, my grandpa who lives with my crazy aunt, was experiencing some bad headaches, and when he got up last night he had lightheadedness and fainted. Now he is in the hospital and his heart seems to pause. His liver count is low.
He is 85 and diabetic, but he was reciently in to see the Dr. for an exam and he was diagnosed as being primarely healthy. What is going on?

He's getting ready to go. It might be his time. Things can take sudden turns at that age. Once they start going downhil they pick up speed. I went through this with my father and mother. After a while the idea of trying to keep them alive just to keep them alive loses all meaning. Sometimes there is nothing that can be done. You have to think about quality of life in cases like this.

I am not sure but it sounds like he had a very mild heart attack with no serious effects.

When a doctor checks you in his office or in the ER they only have a stethoscope to check you out and until you have an EKG the whole condition of the heart can not be determined. My grandmother was check by a doctor in her home and he said every thing was OK. Less than 10 hours later she was dead.

I have diabetes also, but I do not need insulin shots, just a low dose or oral medication.

As far as his liver count being low that depends on how low. My liver count started out a little low and kept getting lower. My doctor sent me to a hospital where I had a specialist in liver decease. I went through many test and they found a tumor in my liver and ended up with a transplant 3 years ago. I was 66 when I had my operation. Today I lead a normal life and can do any thing I want to do.

Ask the Dr. what you wont to know. He should listen if not ask your mom or dad to ask for you. It could be alot of different things at your Grangpa age. I am sure that while he is in the hospital they will run test to find out what it is. I wish you blessings. It is very good to have your Grandpa for so long 85 is a blessing and I wish you many more.

The doctor is your best source of information. Your grandfather who is 85, has diabetes, which has lots of side effects. You say he lives with your crazy aunt. Nutrition, exercise (mental and physical) and socialization are important at 85 as as they are at 15. If it is possible for you to visit him occasionally, he would probably appreciate that

Sounds like he may have suffered a stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack). A diabetic, especially at his age, can have a lot of problems if they do not follow the directions of their doctor to the tee. I would suggest that your grandpa do exactly what he is told to do and to keep from eating foods that a diabetic should not have (foods with a lot of sugar, foods high in fat and cholesterol).

at 85 years we should expect all kind of vascular, cardiac, or neurological diseases, especially with the presence of diabetes in the background.

His heart isn't pumping strong enough to get oxygen to his brain. He needs an oxygen tank.
