My husband had 3 stents put in arteries a week ago. He was sent home with about seven prescriptions, but none of them were anti-biotics. He has been running a low grade fever since day two. When we called the cardiologist, he said that we should worry until his fever reached 101.5 and then we should go immediately to the ER. Has anyone else ever experienced this or know anything about it? Also, incredibly after the procedure and even with blood pressure meds, his bottom number is stayng in the 90s?

Hi, there
Because stents are thrombogenic, the patient is usally treated with antiplatelet agents such as Aspirin, ticlopidine. A glycprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor (e.g abciximab) has been found to be beneficial for preventing abrupt closure of stents.

The primary complications from stent placement are haemorrhage and vascular injury. Less common complications are stent thrombosis, acute MI, emergency CABG, stent embolisation and coronary spasm.

Cheers!

Yes, my brother had a stent after a heart attack and blockage and a week or so later was back in the hospital from inflammation of the heart. As far as his BP, your husband's meds may have to be changed or his dosage.
