Well I was a ovo-lacto vegetarian a couple of years ago. And personally I didn't like it, I'm back to meat. An ovo-lacto is someone who just eats eggs and dairy. A ovo vegetarian is just eggs but no dairy. And really there's 5 or 6 types of vegetarians and when it comes to vegan there's actually subtypes such as raw foodists, macrobiotics. Check out www.vegsource.com and other Vegetarian information sites.

It all depends on what kind of vegetarian you want to be and for what reasons you are changing your eating patterns. I personally don't eat anything that requires killing animals. If you are doing it for animals reasons, watch out for hidden ingredients! They are everywhere! Gelatin, which is made from cow bones and hooves, is in alot of candies and other things that you wouldn't expect like Skittles, yogurt (non-kosher) and Starburst. Even alot of beers and liquors use gelatin in the clarification process. Also, alot of those cheap snack cakes you pick up at the newsstand have Beef Fat in them. Even cheese, which alot of animal rights vegetarians eat, is many times not actually vegetarian because of an Enzyme called rennet that is added to it which helps coagulate the milk.
Anyway, nutritionally, you should make sure you get enough protein and B-vitamins, which alot of vegetarians are lacking. Tofu and eggs are the two easiest sources of protein, but there are others too. To help with the B-vitamins I would suggest vitamin supplements. Though it's always better to get your vitamins from food, it's alot harder for vegetarians because many sources of B-vitamins are animal products.
I hope this helps!

You become a vegetarian by not eating meat.

Good for you, not wanting to eat cheese too, though. You know they have to kill baby cows to make cheese? It has to do with the process, they yse the stomach lining. Seriously. Look up how cheese is made. I know they talk about it on wikipedia.

If you don't like the veal industry, you might want to think about giving up dairy completely. You know what they say: there's a little bit of veal in every glass of milk.

Also, if you don't like the ideal of baby male chicks being suffocated or thrown into wood chippers, you might want togive up eggs eventually too.

Stop eating meat. There are different kinds of vegetarians, some eat dairy products, some don't. It's your choice what you do.

Some Veggies don't eat meat because it requires killing an animal. However, dairy products don't involve killing anything, so many Veggies eat dairy products and eggs.

One might ponder here...
Are they wearing a leather belt, shoes, or using a leather purse? Where does leather come from? Think about it, veggies...

You answered your own question........A vegetarian eats vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts and dairy of your choice...possibly eggs.
To preserve your health you need to eat it in the right combination to make sure you get your protein............so long as you eat beans, nuts and dairy you should be ok in that department.

i'm a veggie, i don't eat any red or white meat or seafood, but milk, eggs, cheese, all dairy is fine for me.

i gave up red meat first, white meat a bit later, and seafood a few years later, you may be able to give it up at once but you can try in stages if you prefer
