The babysitter dried my baby with a towel my mom used. My mom has herpes. Can my baby catch it from her if she used the towel to dry between her legs?

Probably Not, "Herpes simplex" is Enveloped, Not Likely to Survive Dessication.

Most viruses do not survive very long outside the human body. As another poster said though, you do need to check with a doctor to make sure, as this involves a child and the herpes virus is much more dangerous in children than it is for adults. Make sure from now on to keep a towel separate for your baby than for other adults in the house, just to be safe. This is not just for herpes, but for cold viruses and bacterial as well.

The virus lives on most surfaces for all of a microsecond.

Exceptions would include something like a damp, warm towel. I'm not sure of what the timing is there though. But check with mom, too -- I know when I'm having an outbreak my towels go straight in the wash!

If it was long enough since she used it that the towel was dry you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

This is a serious medical question.........it involves a child/baby/ MINOR. You need to ask a doctor , do not rely upon or depend on people that answer these question. The majority of us are NOT qualified to give medical answers.........GO TO THE BABY'S DOCTOR AND ASK. GIVE YOURSELF PEACE OF MIND AND CONSIDERATION OF THE MINOR CHILD. TELL YOUR MOM TO TO KEEP HER LAUNDRY SEPARATED FROM EVERYONE ELSE'S.

Honestly, that sounds like it would be a good possibility. You should check with a doctor, though.
