That actually isn't true. There have been experiments done about this and food can instantly pick up microbes of various kinds. I don't know if you have heard of the show Mythbusters that comes on Discovery Channel. They did a check on this and found that there is not "five second rule" as so many people believe. Their experiments found that the food immediately picks up germs. Sorry.
