There are news articles pointing out that vegetarians are smarter on average than meat eaters. My guess is that a good part of that has to be with the fact that smarter people make more money and thus can afford to be vegetarians.. Isn't the size of our brains and our advanced intelligence due to the introduction of meat into our diets?

Iloveeyore:

You should tell that to America's working class. The calories you get in a dollar menu salad isn't anywhere near what you get with a double cheeseburger, even when you include the dressing. For the same money that would make you fat if you ate the burgers and fries, you would starve if you only ate vegetarian foods off fast food dollar and 99 cent menus.

What planet are you living on to suggest a vegetarian diet is cheaper? As a meat eater, I still spend more on veggies than on meat at the supermarket (and that includes the summer when a lot of what I eat comes out of the garden). Is being a vegetarian environmentally friendlier? Sure. I honestly think that Americans (including myself) eat too much meat, but I don't like the idea of cutting it out altogether. Is it healther? That's debatable. Cheaper? No.

I saw the articles...

However, my father had a PhD and was a Montana-meat-eater. I'm a Doctoral candidate and love chicken, beef, pork, lamb, etc... my brother's are all meat-eaters... A State Auditor General, a retired Corporate President, and Senior Engineer.

Most vegetarians/Vegans are liberals (regardless of income)... but their hero's are rich liberal vegans...

Yep, our brain size REQUIRED incredible amounts of protein (meat) to get were we are... yes, today we can eat soy... but back THEN our ancestors where hunters.

In my adventure, going against the grain motives you to think of independently. particularly than be a typical follower in society, vegetarians (or different "outcast" communities) think of for themselves and are consistently compelled to make judgements. residing that style of life will make you smarter. I define clever as with the potential to understand and understand the international, no longer examining books as many have faith makes a "clever" individual.

Uh, last time I checked it is more expensive to eat meat. A vegetarian diet is cheaper. It most likely is related to another well known fact, which is that people with high IQs (or intelligent people in general) tend to have diverse interests, and tend to have more concern for social/health/welfare/environmental issues.
