There are news articles pointing out that vegetarians are smarter on average than meat eaters. My guess is that a good part of that has to be with the fact that smarter people make more money and thus can afford to be vegetarians.. Isn't the size of our brains and our advanced intelligence due to the introduction of meat into our diets?

You should tell that to America's working class. The calories you get in a dollar menu salad isn't anywhere near what you get with a double cheeseburger, even when you include the dressing. For the same money that would make you fat if you ate the burgers and fries, you would starve if you only ate vegetarian foods off fast food dollar and 99 cent menus.
What planet are you living on to suggest a vegetarian diet is cheaper? As a meat eater, I still spend more on veggies than on meat at the supermarket (and that includes the summer when a lot of what I eat comes out of the garden). Is being a vegetarian environmentally friendlier? Sure. I honestly think that Americans (including myself) eat too much meat, but I don't like the idea of cutting it out altogether. Is it healther? That's debatable. Cheaper? No.
