If good cheese comes from happy cows then why are so many of them tortured?

I don't know ask PETA. After all they like to KILL PUPPIES and KITTENS so to torture a cow wouldn't be too hard for them. And yes I have PROOF.

To Matt H

I know PETA isn't the only animal group around but the thing is they say in their NAME they are ethical. But by their actions they are not. It is also one I've really check out.

But what got me really ticked off about PETA is that a friend of mine had their horses INJURED by some nice PETA people, so they could take pictures and show how my friend was abusing their horses. My friends spent big $$$ for vet care, and almost lost their farm.

Yes its long story so I won't go into it right now.

After that I did my research into PETA, and to say the least I was surprised. I thought like most people that PETA was about the animals and animal welfare. Only to find out that while they organized protests at animal shelter for kill dogs and cats, they were doing the same thing in greater numbers than the shelters they protested.

PETA, in my opinion, has become a political group out to make money and animals come in a distant second.

As far as ALF goes most people know that they are a terrorist group.

Also, I haven't check out all animals groups, I'm not going to post for or against any group until I've checked them out. I don't want to bash a good group or promote a bad one. I do my research first, and I can prove what I say. And when I make mistakes, we all do, I post back and correct my errors.

I could go on and on but I’ll spare you.

To Bojangles

I’ve done my research on vegan&proud and have read where he said he’s against PETA and their tactics, but a question like this one, tells me he has a lot in more in common with PETA then he’d like to admit.

Or maybe he just doesn’t know what the word tortured means? And yes the words you choose say a lot, words mean things. For example if I say I’m going to give something soft and furry, you know it’s not a rock.

So what is torture? Why don’t we ask John McCain what torture is? Then ask if he would have rather been tortured like he was in Vietnam, or tortured like a cow in California? What would you choose?

Really, anytime you use extreme words to make a point you’d better be able to back them up. Show me how and were this is happening. Explain why you consider it torture. Torture after all brings up all kinds of images, most are horrific. So the treatment of the cows better be as horrific.

Just jumping up and down yelling torture might make you feel good, but does it solve the problem, no. With out proof all that it really does is turn people off and put you in the nut category.

If you believe that using milk from cow is bad, then first don’t buy milk, convince other people that milk is bad and get them to stop. If enough people stop buying milk then there will be no milk herds. Problem solved.

Just so you know I’ve gone around with vegan&proud a few times, and so far he has been very reasonable. He has in fact gone a long way in preventing me from lumping all Vegans together and saying they are all crazy until proven otherwise.

So, his question was a little bit of a surprise to me. I was expecting something that was well thought out and logical.

Just so you know, I don’t drink milk, but I do eat cheese.

One last thing it looks like YAHOO has gotten rid of MAN YEA!

Yeah, I've often wondered the same thing.

"Good cheese come from happy cows, and happy cows come from California" is the commercial that is on TV all over around here. Cows relaxing in a field... Ha!

And, well... since I'm from California's Central Valley, all we have are fields and cows... Unfortunately, the only fields the cows are near, are the silage fields, not a green pasture to graze and relax in...

The cows are penned up, knee deep (well, cow's don't have "knees" per se, but you know what I mean) in mud and feces. Udders huge and swollen almost dragging. There is no way a dairy cow could be out in a pasture... with all the hormones and constant pregnancies... it's torture not to milk them... but, it's torture to keep them that way.

It's terrible.

I hung out with some sad little beef cows on my drive yesterday. Precious little things. They were living in the same circumstances (which was odd... normally beef cows are out in a field)... Nothing I can do, wasn't going to free them so they could get hit by cars... but... a little alfalfa (that's what was found) and a good head scratching... best I can do...

Was sad.

For god sake Richard do you really think Peta is the only Animal organization around?

Edit:

@ Richard, first of all sorry for sounding like an A$$. I wrote that at like 7:00am and I did not realise how it sounded.

"I know PETA isn't the only animal group around but the thing is they say in their NAME they are ethical. But by their actions they are not. It is also one I've really check out."

- Look, Peta Sucks. I dont disagree with most of their ideas, in fact, their ideas are abit to conservitive for me. However I don't agree with their methods of harassing the public. For the most part Peta does little to educate and more to just piss people off. Leafleting is fine, but thowing paint on people is unessasary. As an exsample.

I suggest you check out others if you can. Like I said above, most of the other groups ideas will be about the same or more radical but the tactics are going to be more of a base building type.

Well, good art comes from tortured artists, so maybe the cows need the angst for inspiration.

Good cheese comes from soy and rice.

And happy cows should be left alone. :)

because people are fat and need more cheese.
if one city cut down the amount of dairy products.
do you know how many cows, chickens, and other dairy animals would be much happier?
