To be fairly brief, she's not eating, drinking, grooming. Been to the vet, did blood work, no thyroid probs, no FIV no FeLv, no diabetes. She's down to almost nothing. we've tried to force feed her but she aspirates, and vomits. The vet did a full body scan, found nothing. no tumors, NOTHING. Any suggestions at all??

She's been doing this off and on for about a month. He checked her teeth, throat, etc. It does seem like she's having trouble swallowing, but he said he found nothing. I'm having a hard time convincing my mom to get a second opinion. Thank you for your suggestions.

I have convinced them to take her to a another vet, and I am right now waiting to hear what he found. He put her on IV fluids, and antibiotics, and hopefully will have some good news for us. Thank you all again for your suggestions and help.

Take her to another vet- a second opinion never hurts. But make sure you get copies of all your tests results- no need of copying what has already been done.

Could be worms, any number of gastroenteritis causing viruses or bacteria, or something as simple as an infected tooth that needs to get pulled and treated with antibiotics. I would try putting her on Flagyl pills (metronidazole) and see if she responds within two to three days to that. In the meantime the vet should be administering IV fluids and IV vitamins, every day, to keep her hydrated and nourished. He can also administer fluids subcutaneously which will keep her hydrated much longer between injections. Thisis the most important thing you can do right now to save her life and to buy time while the diagnosis continues and various treatment options are tried.
Did they check a stool sample for worm casings or other parasites?

I just went through the same thing with my Delilah. We lost my son/her brother just 3 weeks ago. She stopped eating and than started again. I gave her baby food (Gerber 2nd Stage turkey and chicken). I also made some steak which she did eat the 1st week but than she stopped eating again. I took her to the vet last week and had some blood work done.... nothing. I believe that my Delilah is depressed because Samson passed away.
The vet prescribed Cyproheptadine. It's an antihistimine that can stimulate appetite in some cats. I am happy to report that within 24 hours she started to eat again. There are other types of medications that may help your cat. Ask your vet to prescribe something. I hope this helps.

Take a look at her breathing, is she breathing fast? I had a cat that wasnt eating or drinking, when we finally took her to the vet, we found out she had
fluids in her lungs. They tried draining the liquid from her lungs with a needle.
(twice) But unfortunately she didnt make it through the night, she was over 10 years old.
Please keep a close eye on her breathing, if it seems at all strange, take her to a doctor. Dont wait, like I did.
I wish you and your cat the best of health. I'll say a prayer for her.

Cats don't stop eating, drinking and grooming themselves for no reason. Find another vet. Seven years old is young for a cat. My cousin had a lab that one vet said there was nothing wrong with another vet discovered the dog had eaten a ball, baseball, and some of the string and leather got stuck in his intestines and had to be taken out. Her dog would eat either. I guess, these things can hide in there and only be seen from certain angles. Best wishes for her healing. Animals are very receptive to prayer. Lay your hands on the cat and pray for her healing in Jesus name. List everything you can think of and lift it up to the Lord for her.

would the vet have miss a huge mass, as in yarn or lint or a mass of material that the cat had swallowed similiar to this?
how about asking your nearest pet shop/vet if she could possibly have an obstruction in this way.
can't think of anything else if everything else is ruled out
I am thinking that she vomits, can't eat, or groom herself, etc... because she is bound up with something inside........ would the full body scan have seen this? sometimes they miss things.....
if there is no feline lukemia, this might be the best bet
good luck

Take her to another vet and follow Renate's advice. We had a dog who died of Lupus (an auto-immune disease) once. It took a long time for the vet to unerstand what was going on, and I had no idea a dog could get Lupus. During this, her food backed up and she developed "megesophagus". She had to be hand fed home made blenderized chicken for about a year before she died of pneumonia. Try just plain chicken broth (no onions!) and see if she can drink that first.

There is something really wrong! She isn't old at 7. Take her back to the Vet or take her to another Vet and get a second Opinion.

Take her back to the vet or even find another vet, there is a problem some where. 7 years old isn't old. Did the vet check her teeth. If she's got cavitities in there she won't eat or drink or groom, check it out. Good luck

I would recommend a Veterinary Internist, most of the major Emergency Hospitals have them. I live in New York we have one in NYC and another in Oradell, New Jersey. Is it possible that she ate something (ie tape, plastic) that may not show up on a scan or xray? that would be something to consider. Are her kidneys working properly? Nothing else comes to mind. I really hope that you find an answer soon. God Bless you and your kitty.
