Medical professionals often recommend a warm saltwater gargle or rinse to soothe a sore throat and keep your mouth and gums healthy – especially for a toothache or after a tooth extraction, dental abscess, or periodontal treatment.

Shame on you for instantly thinking STD!!!

If he has nothing to be guilty of he should be able to tell you why he put the salt in the bathroom and what he is using it for as it can be used for so many innocent things!
He is making you judge him by looking sheepish and not coming out with an answer!

I have cooking salt in the bathroom. I use it for body scrubs and foot bathes. Why should it have anything to do with STDs?

salt damnnn sure can't get rid of std's. maybe clorox lol! but on the serious side, it is usually used for gargling with sore throat or if you had a tooth ailment. some people use it for voodoo too. to keep evil away.

could be any number of reasons. a handful of salt in a bath is often advised to keep a wound clean. he may have a cut or boil, (or piles) that he is embarrassed about. it doesn't sound like you should be worried at all

The answers above are good, but I wanted to add that soaking your feet in a saltwater bath can help with athlete's foot, so that's another possibility.
