these foils are just that---foil!!! it's just metal pounded very, very thin and it is edible. no animals and it won't hurt you. gold and silver foil is used to decorate lots of things and it will not hurt you and it is not an animal product. you can see it used often in craft shows. so go ahead and eat that candy with no concerns!!! Happy Chocolate!

pal, The silver steel has have been on condition that high quality , that this is made into skinny foils , and in India this is used to beautify goodies, and the foil is observed as VARAk. The VARAK meaning is given in wikipedia like this; ''Vark, Varak or Varakh (Hindi:????) [stated Vrk] is a silver foil garnishing on perfect of Indian goodies. The silver is fit to be eaten, however tasteless. Vark isn't risky to the physique because of the fact the quantity is minuscule.[citation mandatory] Vark is made by ability of pounding silver right into a skinny sheet some micrometres thick. whilst bought, Vark is subsidized with paper and peeled until now use. this is somewhat brittle and breaks into smaller products if touched. Vegetarian lobbyists declare that Vark is hammered between animal fat or cover and thus a non-vegetarian product.''

Bu there is a diference between the edible foils and the type used for crafts and decorating, the edible variety is made from actual silver and gold with the mercury, arsenic and heavy metals remove, and it is sprayed on to a sugar based film on non stick paper.

I have anumber of Indain and Pakistani friends and have purchased it in Toronto Canada from the Indian Markets for my restaurants, it is nice, but has no real flavour, I also have used the German Schnapps with the gold foil floating inside, some thing different.

I believe the question refers to rumors that lard or tallow is used to grease the rollers for making foil.

I don't know about this issue but I hope someone does.
