"A study claims that the higher your IQ, the more likely you are to be a vegetarian.", from Yahoo news.
Personaly I do not agree with that information, it is another brain washed/mind controling statement.
But I do believe that educated people do eat smarter do to knowledge and because they can aford better quality foods.

". . .it is another brain washed/mind controling statement."
That statement reminds me of a cartoon from the '60's. This little guy is standing there with his fingers in his ears, and the caption reads, "My mind is already made up, so don't confuse me with facts."

Well, I'm a vegetarian. I have an IQ of more than 140... which in my opinion is ok... I've read the article, and I believe the point is basically that you are smart if you decide to eat healthily. Compassion to nature and animals also come at a disadvantage... if you loved meat like I used to. In my opinion, why eat meat when you can something that you don't have to kill. Unless they are allergic to foods, the only reason people eat meat is because it tastes good. I think that the point of the article was that if you have a stronger compassion and a will to stop eating meat, then you are a little wiser and maybe smarter because you can control what you eat... even though meat was delicious when I ate it. Oh, and your 'affording good food' comment, I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. Eating organic foods will probably be a lot cheaper since you will no longer have a need to go to restaurants often. Besides, Wal-Mart's organic foods are incredibly cheap... even though I don't like wal-mart. So it is ultimately cheaper and healthier to be a vegetarian... in my opinion.
and the whole adolf hitler thing, he was a vegetarian because his idol was one... and adolf hitler wasn't stupid. Actually, he was a powerful speaker. How else could he manipulate the nazis?

That study doesn't show anything new anyway. The fact has always been that intelligent people are more likely to become vegetarian, and similarly that the council housed, binge drinking, smoking, thick-as-two-short-planks segment of the population aren't likely to give two figs about the issue. It doesn't show that vegetarianism increases intelligence and other studies have shown that it doesn't at all. In fact I think you'll find it you look at the people of similar IQs at ten, they'd end up with similar IQs at 30, regardless of diet. There is no evidence showing that it increases IQ and I find saying that more intelligent people are more likely to go veg a pointless argument, especially considering in this study the proprtion of vegetarians in the high IQ portion wasn't that much higher than in the others.
@ vegan&proud, that is possibly the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. "but it is not from PETA,so it is legit" Do you not think non-Peta studies could be biased?
Anyway, I don't think the study here IS biased, but the information is being misinterpreted.

Educated people do choose to eat smarter.
But eating smarter doesn't necessarily mean going vegetarian. Sure, a vegetarian diet is much better than the diet of your average American, but an optimal diet would still include a little meat. We aren't supposed to be carnivores, but we aren't supposed to be herbivores either. We're omnivores; we are designed to have all kinds of food, including meat. The healthiest diet is one consisting mostly of veggies and fruits, with a little meat.

I used to be vegitarian and my physical phitness level was ten times better than it is now. The only way to get smarter is by picking up a book. Some people will never do this, but the better one feels, the more likely they will have the energy to put into reading. Then again, if your like me, physical phitness only made me want to go out and play more sports, not read a book.

I think that smarter people think with compassion and realize that it isn't fair to the animals. and vegetarians are not sickly!!!! we're just not usually obese like the rest of the junk food eating world. put down that cow and get a handful of nuts or seeds!

Well..they did a study on it and those are the results. Do you wish to disprove it?
The person above me lacks any correct information. We did not evolve to eat meat..we are evolving not to eat it. Our teeth are not designed to tear flesh like a dog or a cat. The person above me probably does not even know any vegetarians to begin with. I know alot of vegetarians and not one is sick looking.
The person below me is also wrong. Reading has nothing to do with your IQ.
