Drink orange juice, or any juice with sugar in it, but only drink about an ounce or two. Eat peanut butter crackers. Buy glucose tablets at the drugstore or a supercenter, take one of those if it is really low. Get any sort of candy and eat it, or a candy you can suck on. Always try to carry one of these just in case.

I've had type one diabetes for 20 years now. =) Hope this helps you!

Depends on your health. If you are not diabetic and just didn't eat properly, then you can eat an energy bar or drink a soda. However, if you have unstable blood sugar, i.e., diabetes , then eating a sweet will cause rebound hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and then you could crash later and get very sick. The best thing to eat is peanut butter, cheese, turkey chicken, something high in protein. This will level out your blood sugar more gradually and avoid that big crash.

test first if you can...if it's lower than 70, drink a 1/2 cup of orange juice or a 1/2 can of regular pop. test again in 15-20 minutes it should be up in the 80's or 90's. then eat some kind of protein. if your sugars are dropping below 70, consistently, you need to have your meds adjusted...if you're on meds. keep your doctor informed. when blood glucose levels drop too low, below 45 or so, your brain can be damaged. it also causes your body to not register low blood glucose levels, so they can bottom out on you and you can become comatose. you should always carry your test kit and glucose tablets or paste. if you don't have a test kit on you, and you start to feel "funny," assume it's a low blood sugar level rather than high. you can always exercise or take insulin if it's high, but you can kill yourself if it is too low and you exercise or take insulin. i've had mine drop as low as 39... i have memory loss problems now. your brain starts to conserve blood for autonomic function. it doesn't circulate as much to the extremities, so the first thing you'll notice is ice cold hands and feet...severe shaking/trembling, difficulty talking, staggering, hyper-salivation, etc. that's why a lot of diabetics are thought to be under the influence of alcohol during low blood sugar episodes. in california, you only have to be stopped by the police 1 time while in a low blood sugar episode, and you can lose your driver's license. i'm sure that could be contested, but i have friends who've actually had their driver's licenses revoked.
oh yeah, wear your medical i.d. at all times!!

Low blood sugar or hypoglycaemia occurs when your blood sugar level drops below a certain level...about 3.0mmol/l.

If it is mild you can treat it by taking 10 to 20grams of sugar in the form of sweetened juice, glucose tablet or milk.

In more serious cases, an ambulance should be called so that glucose intravenous infusions can be started or glucagon (a sugar increasing hormone) can be injected.

Candy, or drink orange juice and then moniter again. If it drops too low and you have symptoms such as dizziness and shakiness, go to the dr. as soon as possible.
