nope! its because of all the stupid ignorant dumbasses who dont have enough freakin common sense to wash their hands. think about it...have you seen the quality of people working at a taco bell? nothing but good quality chefs that wrap all that goodness up in a tortilla after they just handled money, taken a crap and not washed their hands and probably take a smoke break about every ten or fifteen minutes....mmmmmm

WE all are jinxed with what I call "terrorist phobia" meaning, every unusual event happening in this country we automatically are programmed that it is a consipracy or a terrorist plot. Though it could be this-- the lettuce problem was pickers urinating and not washing their hands(sorry to be so graphic, but true) If the terrorists really want to poison us they have gasses that can be emitted into our air via air ducts in buildings- atop high skyscrapers in cities, on boats- etc.. we can be immobilized in no time- and no, food poisoning illnesses I believe are being brought on by our society so paranoid that they get an antibiotic for every sneeze--- I am of the generation that I lived on penicillin for 22 years, my doc never looked in my mouth with a mirror and I had corrosive tonsils that had to be pulled out in pieces because they were so corroded- I lived on antibiotics all those years- now I never need them- I had my tonsils out at 22 and doing fine--- too many antibiotics and antigerm soaps are keeping us from developing antibodies to very common viruses, which could be dangerous to us.

Sure, it's possible and stuff like this has happened before, but it's probably not likely in these cases. In 1984 a cult in Oregon sprayed salmenella on salads in salad bars just before an election to try and make sure that many of the people got sick and didn't vote (see link below). But in most cases, e-coli poisoning is a mistake somewhere along. For instance, Odwalla juices didn't used to be pasteurized and they had some juice containing e-coli from fruit that probably got dropped in poo or something on the farm. Pasteurization would've killed the e-coli but they didn't pasteurize their juices at that time. There was also some guy in a New York restaurant spraying poo-water on a salad bar (see 1st link below). Or in a restaurant in a town I lived in, I was told a restaurant was closed down because one of the workers was mad and pooed in the vat of refried beans. (I don't know if this last story is 100% true, but the first two are documented from the links below.)
There are lots of careless or stupid people in the world, so cases of e-coli outbreaks are usually because of mistakes and problems with sanitation. E-coli isn't that hard to keep from spreading with good sanitation and hygiene, so I doubt terrorists would use it unless they just wanted to annoy people. There are lots of things that are deadlier or more contagious. There is one form (O157:H7) that can be deadly, especially to young children or old people with reduced immune systems. But it's not that easy to isolate on purpose.
Cases of food poisoning happen quite a bit and you usually don't hear about isolated problems on the news unless a bunch of people all get sick and they can trace it to one source. If only one or two people get sick from something it's usually hard to figure out where it came from.
I got e-coli from a chicken enchiladas at a Mexican restaurant in 1996, and believe me, it sucked. I had gas that would wilt flowers for miles around. And diarrhea that just kept getting worse and worse and wouldn't stop for like 3 days. I finally went to the hospital and they found e-coli and reported it to the department of public health and investigated the restaurant.
It could happen by terrorists, but it seems unlikely to be caused by terrorists, but instead by other ways. If terrorists did it it seems like they would do it on a bigger scale by dumping something into the water supply or something else if they were really trying to cause problems for a lot of people.

i think e coli is rampant every where, and it doesn't require terrorists to spread it, just improper hygiene like people not washing their hands after they poop, then handling your food.
