One of the best reasons is that if we didn't eat meat, there would be way too many wildlife. Most of the people who disagree with eating meat and say it's wrong to kill them have probably not lived in the country. There are so many deer around the parts where I live. They are encouraging people to take there kids hunting and get them interested so the deer pop. won't be so high. Sometimes I'll look across onto the field and see 50 deer. And that's not an exaggeration. If you lived in the country and realized how many wrecks there are, you'd understand. I live in the country and have been around farms my whole life. People raise cows, then send them for meat. It's just the way things are. I believe they were put on earth for us. And also, if your a vegetarian it's recommended to take a certain type(s) of vitamin since you don't get all the protein you need. Especially if you are the kind of vegetarian that doesn't eat eggs. Unless if you eat alot of nuts. And the best reason NOT to be a vegetarian: I love steak. Dust it's horns and powder it's @$$ is what I say.
Matt H: You make some very valid points. Like how 10% of the population eat wildlife. Yet, that is for the country as a whole. That includes major cities. Yet, where I come from, about 99% of the people eat wildlife. I don't know one single vegetarian. And, yes, you can have preservations, but are people going to make one in a county that has 15,000 people? No. Our county basically is one in itself. There are so many counties like this one. You can not make one everywhere. Our county is very wooded. Although much of there natural habitat has been destroyed, the deer have plenty. You can't get more country than this. Just saying "It's just the way things are" might not make it right, but it's the truth...it's just the way things are. Ok, maybe you do get enough protein. If you'd rather eat tofu than steak, fine with me. Also in no way do I connect beating your children and eating meat. We eat meat because we like meat and have never had a problem with it. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a vegetarian until I was probably 7 or 8. Growing up in the country everybody eats it.

@ redneckgal:
“One of the best reasons is that if we didn't eat meat, there would be way too many wildlife.”
- What present of the U.S. population still eats wildlife? I’d be willing to bet less than 10% on any regular basis. Our food comes from factory farms, not wild animals.
“ Most of the people who disagree with eating meat and say it's wrong to kill them have probably not lived in the country. There are so many deer around the parts where I live. They are encouraging people to take there kids hunting and get them interested so the deer pop. won't be so high.”
- There are three main reasons for deer “overpopulation” all of them are caused by humans.
1. Humans have killed the deer’s natural predators.
2. Humans have destroyed the land they lived on.
3. Local forest preserve authorities enact programs to encourage the deer to breed more in hopes of creating a better hunting season.
In almost all cases, the problem is a combination of all three.
“ Sometimes I'll look across onto the field and see 50 deer. And that's not an exaggeration. If you lived in the country and realized how many wrecks there are, you'd understand.”
- There are ways that do not include hunting that have been used very successfully to lower deer populations.
“ I live in the country and have been around farms my whole life. People raise cows, then send them for meat. It's just the way things are.”
-People use to have slaves, women couldn’t vote, husbands could legally beat their wife’s, and it was just the way things were. Saying, “It's just the way things are” does not make it right.
“I believe they were put on earth for us.”
- I believe they are no more “put” on this earth for us anymore then you are “put” on this earth for me.
“And also, if your a vegetarian it's recommended to take a certain type(s) of vitamin since you don't get all the protein you need. Especially if you are the kind of vegetarian that doesn't eat eggs. Unless if you eat alot of nuts.”
- The recommendation to take vitamins has nothing to do with protein. At all. We get plenty of protein.
“ And the best reason NOT to be a vegetarian: I love steak. Dust it's horns and powder it's @$$ is what I say”
-And the best reason to come to your house and beat your children up and down the street: because I think it would be a blast. Get the belt and wup sum @$$ is what I say!
Wonderful reasons, the lot of them, no?

There is no good reason for not becoming a vegetarian. The only reasons for being non-vegetarian is liking the taste of being, not having enough will power or compassion to do so, or a combination of the two. Humans are not natural omnivores or carnivores, as we do not have overall anatomy of a omnivore/carnivore, and can sure as Hell survive without meat.

Well, I don't really know to many GOOD reasons, you may be asking the wrong crowd. However, I think some people believe that if a person chooses to be vegetarian they will not recieve all of the vitamins that they need to maintain good health, but this is absolutely not true. It has become incredibly easy to live your life meat free even for people who say that they enjoy the taste of meat too much to give it up. With the availability of products like "soy meats", tofu, TVP, seitan, and tempeh, people are finding healthier (and tastier) alternatives to what they grew up eating.

There aren't any good reasons for not being vegetarian. The most common reason for not being vegetarian is society and government. They don't want you to be.

The most common reasons people become vegetarian are:
1. ethical objections - i.e. cruelty to animals
2. health reasons - lowering cholesterol, intake of saturated fats
3. in developed nations, many people are concerned about the environmental impact/cost of eating meat
4. meat is expensive and people stop eating it to save money.
The only argument I can think of against becoming vegetarian is that in some places in the world other protein sources and fresh vegetables can be hard to obtain.

Have you ever heard of a sportsman or woman who is a vegetarian? Probably there are not so many out there.
Most of the time people are vegetarians, either for personal ethical reasons or because they don't like meat. Also, sometimes people become vegetarians for health reasons - to lose weight or to help their bodies fight cancer.

In the simplest because we are designed to be omnivores. It is drastically simpler to get the nutrients you need with a mixed diet than with a vegetarian one. My wife is an ovo-lacto vegetarian and has to carefully make sure she is getting enough protein as well as certain basic vitamans/minerals (iron being an obvious one, she can get anemic rather easily).
If you have reasonably long hair(at least a few inches) run your hands through your hair and find a loose one. Take a close look at it and you'll see its a pretty even tube if you're getting enough protein in you diet. The thickness can decrease quite heavily if you are protein deficient.

Isn't it bad enough that you already posted this question once in the Vegetarian and Vegan forum, but now you have to post it again? You could have put this under the General: Food and Drink section, so I can only guess that your intent was to harass and offend.
And people wonder why vegetarians get a bit touchy at times.

The best reason for NOT being a vegetarian is sheer ignorance. Not knowing the health risks caused by eating meat, not knowing about the torture and slaughter of the animals, and not knowing about the environmental benefits of vegetarianism.
If you don't know about any of that stuff, then eating meat is "good" to you. But once you actually KNOW all of that stuff, all good reasons are out the window.
... Except for people who have food allergies and have a lot of dietary and financial problems. For example, allergies to soy and wheat make it very hard to go veg or vegan. Stuff like that.
Other than that? No good reason.
