I am not a smoker,
I have asthma, and I can't even stand to be around smoke.

it could take awhile,but what you need to do is stop using your voice and whisper to save your throat...sometimes it can take 1-2 weeks...the less you use your voice the sooner you will get your voice back,if you just whisper it will save your voice..

I don't really know medically how long it should take or whatever, but I know from experiance (I had it over the Thanksgiving holiday) that it can take a long time unfortuantely. My voice finally started to come back after four or five days, but I couldn't change tones (I don't really know how else to word that) or anything, it was weird. And until the last few days, I couldn't even sing very much because my voice kept disappearing when I tried. It was terribly obnoxious, but don't give up hope. It will come back to you. Hopefully someone else can give you a better answer, and I hope you feel better soon.
Edit Time: Oh, I forgot to mention, using a vaporizor at night really helped things ALOT. So I suggest if you can, use one. :)

When you rest it... and if you smoke, Stop smoking!!!!
This is the way I permanently stopped.... because if I continued to smoke my sore throat/ voice would not come back!!

after two or 3 days..i had the same..its funny isnt it? well not funny coz you feel like pooh...but its wierd not being able to talk..only whisper...get well soon

massage your neck with hot hands, that will speed up the process.
