Winter.....that might be the clue.......

You haven't said where you live, but I have a feeling your environment is probably too dry. Going outside in the dry air (regardless of cold/hot), can cause cracks in your nasal passages, where viruses can get in.

If you are sick right now, steam up your bathroom by running the HOT HOT water in the shower for about 10 minutes, then sit in the bathroom breathing in the hot steam.

As for prevention:

If you spend a lot of time outside, you can only really use saline nasal spray. Use it religiously. This keeps your nose moist.

In your bedroom, put a humidifier. Fill it with water, and put 1/4 tsp salt in it. Run it all night while you sleep.

At work, use the spray if you can't control the humidity levels.

Next, time to do some cleaning if you haven't lately: Remove all paper from your bedroom....ALL of it....books, magazines, posters. (They harbor dustmites)....

Then vaccuum everything. Carpet, floor, walls, furniture.

Then your pillows. How old are they? more than 5 years old? Throw them away and buy new ones. Wash them once a month in HOT HOT water. (A study showed that after a pillow was 10 years old, 1/2 its weight was dustmites and dustmite feces)

Wash your bedlinens every week in HOT HOT water.

Keep any animals out of your bedroom at night.

I can almost guarantee that the nosedrops/humidifier will help you within a month or so.

8 weeks or 8 ounces? If he truly is 8 weeks old and he only weighs 8 ounces, he's in trouble. The average 8 week old is around 32 ounces so you can see he is severely underweight, and lucky to still be alive. He absolutely needs to eat! Most cats can go 2 or 3 days without food, but not this kitten. If that means you need to force food, that's your best option for keeping him going right now. Feed him formula every 2-3 hours. Make sure he eats at least 7-8 mL each time. If he won't take it willing, stand him upright and put a drop or two on his tongue at a time with an oral syringe and give him time to swallow. Don't put too much food in at once or you'll overwhelm him and can cause pneumonia. He should put on weight fairly quickly, and as he does, he will need to gradually increase his food. Offer him smelly canned food to try to tempt him to eat on his own. You can also offer meat baby food - plain chicken is good, read the label, no onions. Also should be old enough to lap the formula out of a saucer. Good luck! You're doing great to put him in the bathroom after showers.

Probably viral if your around that being a nurse however you should have built up your immunity however some health care professionals still get a lot of virus. Do you think It is Bacterial?
Do you still have your tonsils? They sometimes are the culprits.. If you only get it in sunny Spain I bet you are allergic to something you know as you get older we be come more sensitive to certain allergens

It helps to use an antiseptic (Listerine) along with your dental cleaning schedule. This will keep your upper respitory tract free from contamination. My dentist has prescribed an oral rinse for those times of chronic upper respitory infection. I'm not sure what it is, but if you go to the dentist, he'll help you know.

Have you been using antibiotics too much in the past ? Try and use conventional treatment when possible. I have a friend who has the same problem from overuse of antibiotics. If not ask to see a specialist.
