there are different types of vegetarians. some eat no meat, dairy, or eggs whatsoever, but aren't entirely vegan. some eat eggs but not meat or dairy(ovo vegetarian), some dairy but no meat or eggs (lacto vegetarian). some eat dairy and eggs but not meat (lacto-ovo vegetarian). personally i do not eat eggs or drink milk, but i still include some dairy products in my diet. to me, the most important part of being a vegetarian is not eating meat, and eliminating other animal products is even better.

Because milk is only obtained from animals, you don't have to kill, maim, or harm in anyway a cow, goat, or whatever to get milk from them.

An egg is actually an animal (usually a chicken) that hasn't fully developed, which by removing from its incubator you are virtually killing it because you are stopping its development.
