I am not referring to simply eating meat in the presence of a vegetarian, but going out of their way to make sure the vegetarian knows they have no remorse, love their meat and would never stop, or whatever.

First of all not all meat eaters are like that. I personally would not do that, in fact if I were having dinner with a vegetarian I probably wouldn't eat any meat. But I have heard vegetarians attach meat eaters so many times, maybe meat eaters just feel a little defensive. Live and let live, eat and let eat!

It's a simple answer really. MANY vegetarians love to sit and tell meat eaters how unhealthy their diet is,and all the bad things that meat does. So meat eaters turn around and act the same way about their love of meat. Meat eaters find it offensive hearing from vegetarians that meat is the worst thing in the world to put into your body, and that it's cruel. If the extreme vegetarians would just drop the subject meat eaters would too.

See, I get the other way around. I'm with a vegetarian at a family restaurant; they order a salad or whatever vegetarian options are on the menu, I order something like salisbury steak. I then get treated to a diatribe of how the animals are treated, what that stuff can do to my body, and do I know what they do to that stuff once it's been processed? Why would I want to do that to myself?

And the whole time I'm thinking, "Why do I have to defend how I eat to you? Yes, I know what eating too much red meat can do to my body. And no, I didn't know what they did to the animals; I do now. Thank you for ruining my enjoyment of my dinner and my dinner company. It's been a swell evening."

I have no remorse for eating meat. I enjoy it. I'm not going to shove that enjoyment down someone else's throat, but I'd also appreciate not being guilt-tripped whenever I eat with someone who has a different dietary lifestyle than I do.

I think cause meat eaters are Bullies especially those that go and kill animals for sport not only for meat. I'm not saying all meat eaters are bullies.. just most seem to be!
Some meat eaters might feel offended by some people being vegetarians. We know Vegetarians don't like seeing people eating meat. It offends many vegetarians. Meat is Death. If Vegetarians were weaklings then horse, cows and rabbits would be weak.

For some I don't think that it is going out of there way...meat eaters don't think about it really meat is something they enjoy and not being vegetarians don't really understand how it is offensive to others and as for the showing no remorse most feel that the animals were put here for that purpose so there is nothing for them to feel sorry for...just a thought

I'm sorry, as a meat eater I am tired of being lectured by self rightous vegetarians (of course I don't mean you) about my personal eating preferences.

My point is, it can go both ways. I know how some meat eaters behave, my brother is a perfect example of the rude type that you've described. However I also know lots of vegetarians, and a number of them love to describe how animals are slaughtered when I order a burger.

I don't know why people in general like to be rude. It's a mystery.

Well in the 1400s there was a village full of vege eaters that for the most part had no meat hanging ,and the town started laughing at them and the it turned into a fun weekly sport and then became an everyday fun thing to do,then when Chris Columbus stopped by one day on his way to America they sold him the wrights to franchise the sport. And the rest is history you idiot!!

Wow, reading a few answers, and I remembered why I don't tell most people that I'm a vegetarian.
Meat eaters know deep down that it's wrong to kill animals, and they're embarassed. They often say how they don't eat much meat, or they're cutting down. They hate to think that others in the world might have morals and values that they actually live by. They know that meat is killing them with fat, cholesterol, etc, so all they can do is defend it by attacking, and making false claims...like saying that vegans are unhealthy or weak. Give me a break.
I got to know this older couple who always bragged about how their son was the triathlon in hawaii 6 years total, that's a 2.4 mile ocean swim, 112 mile bike race and 26.2 mile marathon, all in one shot. What they failed to tell me was that not only did he win that grueling competition, but he did all his training and his competion on a VEGAN diet.
People need to get educated. Most non meat eaters are educated to a certain degree. Most meat eaters repeat worn out phrases like "where do you get your protein?" without having a clue how much we need or the fact that it's impossible to NOT get enough protein.
Funny, I also find most meat eaters to be narrow minded. It's rare to find one who is curious about vegetarian diet, without going into attack mode.
Remember, I rarely reveal my diet. I never say a word to meat eaters, and yet they still attack. Personally, I think the diet makes them hostile. All that meat makes them agressive.

On the other hand, you're now having a go at meat eaters in general. I'm sure most meat eaters you met didn't try to offend you at all, so why do we all deserve your scorn?

The answer being you're being just as bad; veggies having a go at them is why a lot of the offensive meat eaters have a go at veggies in the first place. It's a vicious circle.

I've never offended a vegetarian although sometimes vegetarians become offended fr their own reasons. I have a friend who hates it that I feel no guilt about eating meat and enjoy it. I don't rub her nose in it but I feel no reason to walk on eggshells around her issues and pretend I feel bad or act ashamed. It is natural and healthy to eat meat. I'm not offended by her tofu (as long as I don't have to eat it) so she should not be offended by my steak.
