BUN is a measurement of the blood urea nitrogen level. It is a baseline indicator of how well the kidneys are functioning.

Blood test. Helps to indicate how well your kidneys are functioning. A high count would indicate there is some problem with the kidneys. More tests would be needed to determine what the exact problem is and how bad it is.

When you are diabetic it is important to monitor your kidney function as untreated and uncontrolled diabetes can lead to kidney failure, a serious and possibly a life threatening condition, depending on the amount of failure.

Be sure you follow your diabetic diet and medication regime to help prevent this complication.
