The virus does not kill you the infections that your imune system cannot fight off is what kills. You can have the virus for years and not even know it. Its Important to get tested and to have safe sex (CONDOMS).

I've done ALOT of studying on this damn virus. As someone is infected, over the years the HIV virus will continue to produce its antibodies that were introduced into the human body and attack the cd4 lymphocyte cells which are what fight off infection along with our bodies antibodies and other parts of immune system (they react by swelling our lymph nodes when we have common illnesses). Anyhow, the body that is infected will continue to loose its cd4 cells and progresses to get more sick. Because these cells are becoming less and less, it is more difficult for the body to fight off more infections that people without HIV will tend to just plain not catch. This is why people who have HIV, they are more susceptible to getting cancer and other dreadful diseases because their immune systems have become so bloody weak.

Hope this answers your questions buddy.

Cheers!

HIV directly affects the immune system. Meaning it is unable to keep you safe from the viruses and things it normally can handle with no problem

Because is affects the immune system and allows infections and conditions to occur that the body is usually able to fight off.

they become what is called "immune compromised" meaning their immune system can't fight off diseases like a healthy person can People who are undergoing chemotherapy as well as people suffering from other diseases also suffer from this. I had 2 friends who had cancer actually die of something else besides the cancer because their immune system was so poor.
