Trials have been done with transplantation of the Islets of Langerhan (the cells that produce the insulin) with excellent results, but the person would still be classed as a treated diabetic. That would only be done in type 1 diabetics.
There is no cure for type 2, just control with diet, exercise and meds. Being overweight is an issue, losing weight helps control but it does not mean the person becomes non diabetic as a previous answerer suggested...;

There is no cure and there is not likely ever to be a cure. Medicine has never presumed to prevent all illness anymore than it is able to make all the ill well. Diabetes is a complex metabolic and endocrine disorder which is generally divided into type 1 and type 2. The latter makes up about 85% of all diabetics in the United States. We have no idea what the first 'step' is in the progression of a 'normal' person towards diabetes so we have no ability to prevent it. The metabolic derangements of diabetes are typically present for a decade before we are able to diagnose it. This means that we lack an early 'marker' by which we may identify those at risk when intervention will do the most good. That having been said however at this time treatment options are quite good and an essentially 'normal' glucose may be achieved in the majority of diabetics.

There is no cure yet, but they are on the verge of so many new things so keep your hopes up. In Alberta Canada they have been on a breakthrough with transplanting insulin producing cells in the liver and many type one diabetics have been injection free for great lenghts of time...it is experimental right now and requires taking anti-regection medication so its not risk free.
They also have been working with a nasal spray insulin but again it is experimental and is not available until testing is complete.

In Europe you can have an insulin pump surgically implanted so you don't need to take insulin injections regularly, just have the pumped filled every couple of months I believe. The company is Minimed, but the implanted pump is not yet available in North America.

No cure- ever- If you have Type 1 you are insulin dependent.
If you are Type 2, you are medication dependent. Diet and exercise help keep your glucose levels in moderation but medication will be necessary for the rest of your life--- or if they find a cure--- but dont hold your breath-- they can't find a cure for cancer and they have been trying for over 35 years now.

Okay first of all, we're not allowed to say that something that's not a drug will treat, diagnose, or prevent any disease. Second, the government would not be making money off of it for the obvious reason that they don't support any non-drug treatments.

P. S. Cinnamon is REALLY good for your health (not exactly implying that it cures diabetes).
