Why are Kosher Dills called kosher dills?

Why are Kosher Dills called kosher dills? Is it kosher salt? Or is it because they are approved kosher?

Jewish kosher laws mean no pork products, I think. And kosher salt means it's pure salt, not mixed with iodine. Because God hates iodine, you bunch of iodine eating heathens.

So what the heck?

From a Rabbis perspective:

According to Jewish law, a kosher pickle just meens the pickling was done with vinigar not derived from yayin akhum - wine processed by people who do not practice Judaism. (Jew or non-Jew.) Also, the cucumber may not be from the holyland and be suspected of not having been tithed or from a batch where certain special holyland laws weren't observed.

That last bit is very unlikely, and none of this has anything to do with kosher dills.

Kosher Salt is short for Koshering Salt, and refers to course salt that is used to extract blood from meat by kosher butchers. Regular salt, even with iodine, is kosher, as it is a mineral.

Anyways, the Kosher on Kosher Dills is referring to a crisp sort of salty pickle that was made in Jewish delis at the turn of the last century. Since those delis said kosher on them, people came to identify the flavor with the word kosher.

No mention of its actual Kosher-osity, or rabbinical inspection. I suspect it is one of those terms that has become generic.

Sorry but iodine is needed in our bodies, you don't know much about the medical part of what is good for you and what isn't.
