No, they just test for abnormal cells. If there is an STD present the smear result is likely to come back as unreadable (been there... had the STD) so you will have further investigations to find out what is going on. If you suspect you have an STD its much better to get it treated sooner rather than later...good luck..;

A Pap smear is a test your doctor does to check for signs of cancer of the cervix.
There are many different tests for each of the different STDs. There is not one test that will screen for all STDs. Some STDs are hard to test for if you do not have any symptoms. Some STDs can be tested through simple blood work or a urine test; some can only be tested for through culturing body fluid from the penis, vagina or open sore on the body. If you go in for testing, it is important to ask your health care provider which tests will be done and which will not. Sometimes weeks or months need to pass to give your body enough time to develop antibodies that will show up in a test.

No, a PAP Smear only tests for abnormal cells in the cervix. If you want to be tested for STD's ask you doctor to run an STD panel (blood tests).

The pap test does not test for any std's. The only one it may be able to detect is HPV which, in a pap smear, the only thing they can see is cellular changes in the cervical tissue, and to actually diagnose HPV they will need to do a seperate test on your pap. You need to ask your doctor for seperate std testing.

No, PAP smears only test for cervical problems and HPV. STD tests usually require a urine test or other sample of the vagina or penis.

no they don't test for std's at all other than cervical cancer caused by the hpv virus; you have to request "cultures" done at the same time for std checking and herpes and syphllis may only be found through blood tests if there's no active infection.

No just abnormal cervical cells related to cancer. You need to request alternate tests for specific std's.
