My ear have been ringing now for three weeks after coming out of a club. Normally after two or three days the ringing was stopping, but it still hasn't. Has anyone had this experience with a positive outcome? Thanks

I have tinnitus, and it was driving me crazy- but once you understand it, it's not so bad... I went to a specialist, he gave me advice, and this may help you- it's not ear damage, it's just a shift in your hearing- what you can hear now is the sound of your brain working, that's all... your ability to hear isn't affected. If you want to listen to music, you can, actually, that can be the best thing, just take your mind off it. They said that it does go away in some cases, but not to pin any hopes on that. For me now, it's more a case that I can hear it, but I don't particularly notice it unless I make a concious effort... which is probably similar to what is was like before.

It's a good idea to wear ear plugs if you're going to gigs or clubs again, I mean, it makes it more prominent if you don't. Take care now...all these people saying it's 'damage', that's not the case. Don't worry, you're not going deaf, it's just a shift, and you'll adjust to it in time. When I started with it, the idea that I was actually hurt in some way drove me out of my mind, I don't want anyone else thinking that sort of thing...

It may reverse, or it may not. But even if it goes away, it's an early warning that you're doing permanent damage to your hearing. It would be a good idea for you to avoid loud music and to wear ear protection when using machinery. Take it from someone who's been there, if you don't do something to protect your hearing now, you will have far worse problems down the road. There is no cure for tinnitus once it becomes permanent.

Not to be a downer but it can last a long time- I've had it for the past few years. I've just learned to ignore it. After a concert, depending on your age-if you're in your late teens to early 20's yeah, the ear is a little more adaptable. But continous exposure will ensure it won't go away. I had to quit a job because of it. I don't know your age, but get it checked, and if you go to a concert or club that loud, think about earplugs-you'll be able to hear the music and it won't overwhelm your ears-plus the plugs you can get now fit right inside the ear, so you don't have to wear big "earmuff" type plugs.

Your right, usually there should be an improvement within a few days of going to a club or concert. There may be something else going on. I have had it happen were it lasted a week, just got less noticeable as time passed. If your not hearing an improvement you should get it checked out.

Tinnitus from loud noise passes in a few days (the time it takes for the parts of the ear you've temporarily damaged to sort themselves out)

If you still have yours (and haven't constantly listening to you MP3 turned up full), you're body is failling to heal itself and needs some help.

Go and see your GP ASAP x

Heres the bad news, the tinnitus ringing is the last time you will able to hear that frequency again, when the ringing stops, but get it checked out at the docs, as it could be a number off other things.

I'm afraid tinnitus is perminant, my father has it from working in timber yards all his life and not wearing proper protection. wear ear plugs used by musicians when going into clubs this stops the damage but you can still hear all frequencies. you can get a set on a string so that they are harder to loose.

if it really bugs you you can go to the doctors and get special hearing aids that play a buzz or whistle into your ears at night this trains your brain to tune it out.

hope this helps

I've had it for years after too much time spent in very loud clubs. It's a nuisance when you try to go to sleep at night. I do a pretty good job of tuning it out and willing it to die down

the only way you could make it worse is too put some type of headphone on your head where sound doesn't get out. Also don't play the music loud in your car as when the windows are shut that sound is trapped and is very loud and can damage your hearing.
