I have a friend who has been having severe intermittent pain in the abdomen for 3 days. He says it starts in the stomach then radiates to the back and then shoots up to the jaw and the top of the head. Does anyone know what that might be?

Coronary thrombosis is a common cause of unexpected sudden death. In other patients, a coronary thrombosis is the culmination of months or even years of angina.
The onset of coronary thrombosis may occur at any time, while moving about or while at rest, during the day or in bed at night. The patient experiences pain in the chest which may spread into the neck or into the left arm. The pain may be no more than a dull ache, often mistaken for indigestion, or it may be of great and unbearable severity. It lasts much longer than an attack of angina and usually persists for several minutes or even hours.
In a severe case, the patient may be in sever pain, restless and sweating. There may be signs of shock with a rapid pulse of poor volume, a low blood pressure and the skin cold and clammy.
The course of the progress of myocardial infarction can be treacherous. Although the signs and symptoms may be mild at the start, the thrombosis can spread leading to increased pain, irregularity of heart action and collapse.

He needs to go to the doctor. The symptoms of a heart attack are different for everybody and also between men and women. Pretty much, from what they teach us in school for screening, any unexplained abnormal symptoms above the waist are anginal equivalents, especially if it goes above the nipple line. Sever pain in the abdomen could also be something else serious. Get him to the doctor ASAP.
