I don't know. But I do know that they are gross.

NO preservatives..Meat hot dogs/sausage have Nitrates
Even the organic meat ones are frozen, as they too are without this product.
Nitrates & Nitrites are really not good for you so if they are added to Morningstar it would wipe out all the good you are doing by eating them.

Try TofuPups. (hot dogs)
They are refrigerated and can be frozen if you want. Much better!

Try a Giant Eagle if you have one in your area. I doubt wal-mart would carry them. Or if you have a specialty grocery store that sales mostly organtic and vegetarian foods. They may run a bit pricey too.

My guess would be because just like many other things, they store a lot longer that way.

Probably so you can cook it easily, and it'd be more convenient...
