My mom-in-law passed away 24 Nov 2006 because she had an irregular heart beat - died of silent heart attack. The doctor told my hubby he must get tests done to see if he's inherited the irregular heart beat. Anyone know how big the chances are that he might have the same thing?

Hello. My twin brother died of this is 1997. His siblings, another brother, myself and two sisters went to the hospital and had a battery of tests - all perfect, so none of us had anything similar at all.

They also call this SAD sudden adult death. By brother went to bed perfectly healthy and died in his sleep. Age 47. The coroner said that Ischemia often interupts the electrical signal from the brain to the heart (effectively making it beat) and the heart just stops.

the genetic predisposition to having heart problems is definetly a cause of concern. the problem is its difficult to say with confidence that x% of risk is transferred because of other things...consider that a poor diet in the house means the same poor diet for the mom and the children.
depending on how old your hubby is, its always a good idea to get checked. if you say it was an irregular heart beat then that = fibrillation. the problem with that is..all of the heart conditions are related with each other and they all increase the risk of each other. so doing something simple as monitoring blood pressure at home and keeping it in a normal range will help with ischemia (which then helps with irregular heart beats)

Family history of heart disease is not the only risk factor of having a heart attack. So if your hubby is not smoking and have no high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol and the GP told him that his tracing of the heart is alright: you have not to worry what so ever. But all of us must remember to have regular medical checks to make sure that everything is alright. Wish you and your hubby all the best.

Yes..could be a 50% chance. It is really advisable to have your husband undergo stress test or 2D-Echo / ECG (these are tests for the heart) just to make sure that evrything will be managed. And as eraly as now, right diet must be observed. Hope this helps. God bless

Well probably 50/50 since he has also his Father's genes.

I had an Ischemic attack and if you can try to prevent it from happening that would be very good for him.
