Diabetes comes in two forms, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 you'd have been born with, and is relatively rare. Type 2 is the kind that is most common and becoming more so, and it's generally triggered by a bad diet and lack of exercise.
Your high insulin and blood sugar levels told your doctor that you were probably in the early stages of developing Type 2, and so he told you to change your diet and exercise. Because you did that, you stopped the process that could have developed into Type 2 if it had gone unchecked.
Congratulations on dodging the bullet and taking the steps needed to be healthy!

Cannot contact you directly, trivatm, but you are giving dangerously inaccurate information. You do not have to be born with Type I diabetes. You can develop it later in life, and it is far from being rare. Bad diet and lack of exercise do not contribute to the onset of Type I or Type II diabetes. They will help control your blood sugar levels if you have either. Type I is caused by the failure of the pancreas to produce insulin and can follow on from Type II or occur in its own right. Type II involves the body not utilising the insulin it has to dispose of the blood sugar. You cannot stop the onset of diabetes. You either get it or you don't.

You are a diabetic - but it is controlled with diet. If you go back to your old habits you will eventually become insulin dependant. Stick to your diet and your exercise regime and hopefully you will never need medical intervention for it!

NO. At least not now. You probably stopped the possibility by exercising , losing weight and undoubtedly changed your diet. Keep in mind that you have shown you are prone to it Keep the weight off, exsercise as often as possible and stay on a healthy diet.
