One of my cousins, who is 35, has called me yesterday saying she has got a serious problem as she started peeing with blood for almost 5 days. Some say that she needs to lose weight as she very overweight and change her diet( she eats lots of spicy food and carbs), others say it may be that she has got gallstones that need to be extracted from her organism and as a result of friction they come up in the form of blood. Any suggestions?

She urgently needs to be seen, doesn't sound all that related to Diabetes, but Diabetes is liable to add to the mix.

Blood in urine is Never good, but in a Diabetic it is time for urgent immediate attention. If you smell a fruity odor to her breath she may be in ketoasidosis, again, she urgently needs to be seen, at the very least her blood sugar is an issue. She needs to test at least ever 4 hrs until she see's a Doctor.

She needs to go to a dr asap - I'm not overweight and I had the same problem a couple of years ago (when I was 20) so it's not necessarily because she's overweight. Mine started when I was in hospital with food poisoning and ketoacedosis (a condition that people with diabetes can sometimes develop) but my dr wasn't sure if it was related or not and never did pin down what it was despite tests - it stopped itself after about 10 days - hopefully your cousin's will turn out to be nothing serious too but she really needs to go to a dr really soon just in case anything more serious is wrong. Hope that helps - good luck xx

See a doctor preferably a urologist. Peeing blood for 5 days is not something that should be happening no matter what weight or diet you are on. Even if it is friction causing the blood that means that something is being torn and needs to be repaired. There could also be an infection that simple antibiotics can treat. My advice is consult a physician.

Peeing blood has nothing to do with any gallstones she may or may not have.
Being overweight is unlikely to be the cause.
She needs to see a DOCTOR not listen to people who know very little about the subject. Get her to see her doctor fast, she should not be peeing blood..;

Doctor immediatel since this is not a 'normal' condition for her and she probably is not a jogger or boxer.
No one here can diagnose this, and I seriously doubt this has anything to do with her weight other than if she is morbidly obese she may have a bacterial infection of the urinary tract.
At any rate, blood in your urine indicates either an infection or kidney damage which needs to be addressed right now.
Go to the ER if her doc is unavailable to get her in today.
good luck HTH

Gallstones has nothing to do with it. Kidney stones do, but she would be in tremendous pain. She could have a bladder or kidney infection. Her change in diet has nothing to do with her urinary problems. Most likely an infection of some sort. She needs a urinalysis done at the docs office.

She definitely needs to get seen by the doc. I don't think {as a nurse} it is any of the things you mentioned. It could be a very bad kidney infection or maybe the blood is coming from elsewhere. Make sure she sees a dr.

I was peeing blood once and it turned out to be a serious kidney infection. I have never felt so ill since. Listen to Huggywell, go to a doctor and stop listening to people who know nothing. It most probably isn't her weight or what she eats, rather that she doesn't drink enough fluid. Your friend must be getting other symptoms. She must get it checked out ASAP.

She may have a kidney infection or UTI. In either case she needs to get in to her doctor. Since she is overweight she needs to have her doctor check her blood sugar levels to rule out diabetes, as high blood sugars can affect the kidneys

Doctor now!
There are a few explanations for blood in your urine, and if I remember right one can be cancer!
My husband had this a few years ago, he went straight to the doctors and was given a few tests, they couldn't find anything wrong and it cleared up by itself. If it had been something serious it would have showed up in their tests.
You can actually have blood in your urine without seeing it as well so even if it looks like it might have cleared up still tell her to go to the doctor.
