My friend who is HIV positive, fell and cut his chin. As an immediate reaction, I placed my hand over his bleeding chin, and had his blood, which was quite a bit, all over my hand. We took him to the hospital, and he had 6 stitches on his chin. The day after all this happened I noticed I had had an unbandaged scratch on my thumb. I think some of his blood may have gotten on it. His blood was on my hand no more than 5 mnutes before I washed it off with soap, then sanitizer. What are the chances of me contracting HIV? I'm a bit nervous about this, and would appreciate any advice. Should I take an HIV test? What are the chances of contracting HIV from HIV positve blood on a scratch on my hand? Is it ok to have sex, or should I wait to have an HIV test? How long should I wait if yes?

I'm sorry, any contact with infected blood by broken skin puts you at risk. See someone about an HIV test right away and you can talk to an HIV trained counsellor....they should have one wherever you get the test. You should follow their recommendations about having sex. Wait until then. That's my advice.

The answer is a remote yes, but yes none the less. These are questions for a doctor, preferably one with experience with this disease. Get some medical attention, and take all the questions you might have written down. That way when youre nervous you wont forget to ask. You might have a bad case of nerves, but dont avoid things you know you should do because of nerves.

It doesnt take long to be transmitted, you should definitely be tested. Although sometimes it takes about 6 weeks to show a true positive result and sometimes even longer, so be sure to get retested about every 3-5 weeks, at least for a while.

U sh do ur slef a favor and get checkd out blood contact is least likely noticeable but far most potent way of catching the virus (because most people get it just by sex)

WOW!! I'd have an aids test right away. This is your life you're talking about. Don't have sex until you get the results & If you do, make sure you use protection. What you did was'nt smart.
