No, the cake the night before shouldn't have anything to do with it. Is that 98 reading a fasting number? Next time you see the doctor ask for a fasting insulin test. This along with fasting glucose levels in the upper 90's or above can indicate a conditon called insulin resistance. Basically insulin resistance is the step before diabetes. Proper treatment for insulin resistance can halt or delay diabetes.

The glucola test, at 28 weeks usually, tests your ability to handle sugar. A sugar drink is given and blood tests are taken at 0, 1, 2 hrs. The glucose tolerence test is just that, how well are you tolerating the sugars. Technically, the placenta makes hpl which counters insulin. If the test is failed, a 3 hr gtt test is done. Gestational Diabetes can be diagnosed and treated with insulin. GDM has a lot of morbidity and mortality for babies if left untreated. The urine glucose test is not really too important, other to get an idea of high sugars. On the urine dip, the proteins are also what clinicians are looking for as a clue to preeclampsia. A high glucose on urine may trigger an accucheck and/or early glucola.

No. Someting is going on here. Glucose spills over into the urine when the blood sugar level reaches apx. 180. For a non diabetic person the blood sugar level should never be above 140. Even if you ate the whole cake. You doctor should have scheduled a fasting blood glucose test then a second one a week or so later. Don't be scared even though it is and can be scarry. Just have a fasting test done and go from there.

Are you taking any medication? Are you pregnant (would be a normal variance in pregnancy). How much glucose was in the urine? And finally, no - the cake last night did not cause the glucose in the urine. If your blood glucose was normal, then don't worry and just have it rechecked in a few weeks. Also, did the doc run a urinalysis (lab test, opposed to a dipstick which was done in the office?)

If you have had kidney problems in the past this could be causing your problems now. Glucose is a big molecule (bigger than what the kidney ususally filters out to urine) If you have had problems before, they could have torn the filters in the kidneys causing you to pass glucose in your urine occasionally. Was the level of glucose a high level, or moderate is also an important question to consider?

I think glucose can show in the urine. I know men who have diabetes and use some kind of stick. It changes colors when urine touches it. There is also a color chart that goes with it.

No. A body doesn't spill glucose in the urine unless there is too much of it in the blood.
Get your blood re-checked periodically because you may be having some problems here......

you didnt specify if you have a history of diabetes in the family, anyway, as you have said the glucose level is normal so you dont have to worry on it, just get a regular glucose level monitoring, ok? dont worry on it too much..:)
