there are many types of lung cancers...Squamous cell, transitional cell, small cell and large cell carcinomas...small cell and large cell metastasize quickly and therefore shorten one's life and not all treatment will work either. Scarring on the other hand make breathing very difficult but oxygen and medication will prolong a life but with many restrictions. So it is a toss up and up to an individual to decide on there own.

I had this op 3 years ago. The scar has faded a lot but is still visible. You could hide it with an interesting tattoo. I don't think it will ever go away.

Scarring sounds worse, but I don't know... Cancer is pretty bad... At least some people get a spiritual experience out of cancer... I have never heard of that about scarring... I don't know.. I am sorry if I didn't help...

I have to say the cancer is worse. My dad died of lung cancer & I saw what he went thru going for radiation & chemo. It was horrible & basically all for nothing. It made him sicker & he lost all his hair. When he finally died, he didn't even look like himself & right before he got so tired that he just couldn't go for his treatments anymore. It's horrific.

Cancer is definitely worse. Scarring is self limiting, meaning it isn't goint to spread or get worse as long as what caused it is gone. Cancer will spread. It is the nature of the disease.

Cancer is more serious...Scarring is caused by once having a disease or a condition that has healed and therefore leaves scarring..Scarring is not deadly ,but cancer is...

i would say cancer because it seems much harder to stop... to stop scarring you would just quit smoking or remove yourself from the offending environment, cancer however can bust through treatments and such even when the offensive material is removed from the lungs
