Occasionally, I get sleep paralysis and I'm a floater. I float out of my body but I wouldn't say it's amazing. To be honest I don't really like the experience because I'm worried I won't get back into my body. When this happens I'm desparately trying to get back and move my arm or whatever bodypart I can move. Finally I get back and I'm so relieved it's over.

Sorry I dont know anyone who as come up with a good reason they happen! Scientists say its electrical impulses in the brain and psychiatrists its just vivid dreams! Neither of them explain why we hear things that Have been said or see things that Have happened when the things occur away from our bodies though. I had one when my daughter was being born and remembered floating behind the cot taking her to the nursery and a nurse saying how doll like she was.I could not have heard it through my ears but the nurse told me it was true! I've had several more since then too and unlike my 'normal' dreams they are always enjoyable!
Whatever the reason is, I dont think I care. I dont want them to stop!

Hi, I'm not advocating drug use, but the anesthetic ketamine which is used in the vet and with small children will trigger a Near Death Experience hallucination, but without being anywhere near death. Its an amazing out of body feeling that one can only experience, but is very difficult to explain.
On a side note, people who have NDE (near death experiences) have almost no incidence of suicide after the experience.

If you want to know the truth of the matter, we are spirits. Usually we do not leave the body until death but sometimes when the survival of the body is threatened, the spirit takes it as a cue to leave, but on seeing that the body is going to survive, it can re-enter. Read books such as "Other lives - other selves" and "Have you lived before this life" for more info.
You don't need a shrink that's for sure - to be aware of what happened you are in pretty good shape spiritually.

Baroness Greenfield (susan greenfield) has written some books about consciousness, which include explanations of the unusual experiences people report when near death or in some forms of anaesthesia.
She's not really a believer in the mystical connections that these events are supposed to have, though...

Your question reminds me of the movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy,” a native in the Kalahari Desert encounters technology for the first time--in the shape of a Coke bottle. I found this to be very amusing, but I also began to see parallels between his thought process, and that of the modern day Theist. Both are using CAVEMAN LOGIC to explain their world. I fail to see the difference between “hmm, bottle fall from sky, must be gods” and “hmm, trees, butterflies, the complex human organism prove the existence of god.” In both of these cases, someone is simply replacing one unknown for another unknown, but proving nothing! Not only can God not be proven, but I will also go so far as to say that God can be disproved. It is impossible for something to be all knowing and all good. If you are aware that something bad is going to happen, and you allow it to happen anyway, then you cannot be all good. If God created everything, then he also created evil. It is also impossible to be all-powerful; can God create a rock that even he himself cannot move? I would have thought that as man became more knowledgeable and logical that he would have pushed aside his caveman beliefs, but it seems to be just the opposite.
