I'm getting a CPAP and thought I heard something about people losing weight when using one. Has anyone had this experience and if so does anyone know why this happens?

THis is going to sound crazy but it does happen.
Read research done by Dr OZ when people sleep good. Part of this is where the brain is needing certain things to keep it going, so it tells you to eat junk food to make up for lost sleep, making you fat.

well when you sleep good you eat better foods, and less!

true story.....

I don't see how a CPAP alone would cause weight loss, in fact there's no feasible way for that to happen. In many cases sleep apnea is made worse by being overweight. Perhaps persons using the CPAP lost weight at that time because they were trying to help themselves get off the CPAP or something along those lines.

I know of a friend who lost over 50 pounds with the use of CPAP. Check on line for Sleep Apnea for more information about this problem.

Your body basically shuts down with sleep apnea and you are sleepy the next morning which makes you feel listless and less energetic. This will create weight gain because you are not burning calories.

I don't use a CPAP, but the only reason I can possibly come up with for people experiencing weight loss is because they are finally getting a good nights rest. Hence, their body is on more of a 'normal' cycle, and they may be eating more appropriately? Really, I don't know and I will be interested to hear more.....

I did lose weight, I needed to....and the cpap helps because sleeping well means having the energy to exercise.
