Why, after 9 months, haven't you seen a doctor? You could be masking a more serious problem than just an annoying cough. The cough could be something as minor as a chronic post nasal drip which causes congestion in your chest or it could be bronchitis or asthma (as you suggest). Whatever the problem, you shouldn't be asking people who don't know you or your medical history for advice on-line. Get to a doctor!

That's a long time to have a cough. I don't know whether to call it asthma or not, but it certainly is a problem. A doctor could advise you better, but since the medicine seems to help you should keep taking it.

Good luck!

Don't you think you should really discuss this with your physician? If you feel that you don't have enough time during appointments, make an appointment with him/her to discuss your condition, & treatment options. Write down all of your questions/concerns in advance, so you leave fully informed. Hope you feel better!
