Genital herpes is caused by HSV (herpes simplex virus) not HPV (human papillomavirus).

I got diagnosed with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about five yrs ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. That's exactly what happened to me. I had no clue until I had a routine pap screening, and it came back abnormal. Long story short, it turned out that I had cervical cancer that had resulted in the HPV virus (genital herpes). When the doc told me I had genital herpes, I was laying down on the table, and I literally sat straight up and shouted "WHAT!!!??????" I had been with the same man for years, and before him I was only with my husband (ex, now of course). Doc reassured me that genital herpes can go undetected for up to 15 YEARS without being detected!
I was So afraid my boyfriend at the time would think I had cheated on him or something when I told him, but after explaining that the doc said I could've gotten it from my ex husband (who cheated on me) he was understanding.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

Yes it's very possible. the virus lies in wait in your nervous system. Usually at the base of your spinal cord. When it decides to rear it's ugly head, a person will have their outbreak.

That is possible . Alot of people are asymptomatic and have no symptoms at all . Could it be that your recent partner is a carrier and doesn't know it . That is a possibility also .

Yes, it's possible b/c lot of times the infection is subclinical, (as the hiv for example) and the infected can't notice anything wrong.
