The meat produced commercially is full of growth hormones to make the animals grow faster. My steers take 4 -5 years to get to a marketable size/weight. Feedlot steers take a little over a year. They grow so fast, partly because they get a high energy diet, but largely because of the hormones they are fed. That's why I bought a farm to raise my own beef, so that my grandchildren can have healthy food!
I know, you say you can't afford it... Neither could I. I took roomates into my house & stopped getting new cars, along w/ no social life to pay for it. My roomates buy expensive food at "Specialty" grocers & tell me, "You can't put a price on your health." They still get the hormones & antibiotics & are not healthy. I put a couple steers in the freezer a year & drive them back to Calif for my children to feed to my grandchildren.
Because I can't put a price on their health!
It's worth all that I've given up to know that they will be healthy. ou can do it too. Start saving, now. You don't have to drive a new car, play the new games, have the new electronic toys. That is the price you are putting on your children's health!

Some people will tell you it's your diet. That now a days kids are going threw puberty sooner than what we did as kids because of diet & the enviroment. But, I'm not to sure. I think it's just that everyone reaches puberty at different times.
