ok i know prepatory work of animal for eating is different, draining blood saying prayer over it etc, but if i were to go to a halal butchers and wanted to cook meat would i just cook it like any other kind of meat? is just for a friend im cooking for at xmas, i will obviously keep both types of meat seperately just wondering if there was anything else i should do/know?

The cooking is nothing different. The only difference is how the animal is slaughtered. After that you can cook it anyway you want to. The obvious things, you already know them. Don't use alcohol or any sort of wine to cook it. Don't mix in any pork or non-halal (haram) meat in there. Make sure to throughly clean the utensils, pots, pans, and the serving dishes if you will be doing this at home with dishware that has been used with non-halal meat before. If you are thinking about grilling, then obviously make sure that the grill is very clean (for BBQ and stuff).
The final standing is on the Muslim individual. Some people won't eat anything made on a grill where they know that haram meat has been prepared. Other accept it as long as the grill has been throughly clean. Another group of people don't care if the grill is clean or not. And yet another group doesn't care at all about halal or haram. They will eat everything.
Muslims have the same standing on Halal as Jews do on Kosher. Some people don't care. Others think that if you take Kosher meat and put it on a grill where pork has been prepared before, it is not Kosher anymore.

You have had some good answers and some that are just crazy. I can tell you from experience that it depends on the cut of meat that you will be using. Everyone that said that the only difference is the way that it is processed is exactly right. If you are using a cut of beef it is best to use a slow cooking recipe and make like a main dish with vegetables and broth. Most of the people that use Halal meet make dishes similar to a stew. The person that said you must keep the area clean and keep it away from alcohol and pork is exactly right. I have cooked beef, goat, lamb, and chicken that where all halal meat, you do want to make sure that you have enough juice or liquid to make sure that your meat is juicy. If you would like to email me with your cut of meat I might be able to help you with some recipes.

You can cook it in exactly the same way as any other. I know it can be difficult. I belong to a cooking club and there is this muslim girl who goes on and on about halal meat being less stressed at slaughter and tasting better. Personally, and other's in the club cannot taste the difference either! I hope your muslim friend appreciates the concerns over them. You sound like a very caring person.

Cook it the way you would any other meat. It's only the method of slaughter that is different. It might just be easier for you to supply all your guests with halal meat, unless you're doing steak, or something like that which is easy to keep separate.

Yes it is okay. It is meat that muslims can eat but anyone can handle just wash your hands and not let the meat be contaminated by juices from non halal meat or let non halal meat touch the halal meat and keep all utensils clean before cuttting..

Short answer is no. Once you buy from a halal butcher you should keep the meet and cooking utensils aways from other meat. The process of cooking is exactly the same. The important thing to remember is cleanliness of the environment you cook the food in and oh yeah wash your hands!!

Yes, you should very much keep halal meat seperate from 'other' meat, (including not preparing them on the same surfaces or using the same utensils, I think) but you can cook them exactly the same way...
But why is someone who keeps halal (presumably to keep shari'a law) celebrating Christmas, I have to wonder? LOL...

Cooking Halal meat is exactly the same as cooking any other meat, its just the way it is killed that is different, so you shouldn't have any problems.
