Natural Cholesterol Guide?

20% of the cholesterol comes from food and 80% from the liver production.
You can work on that 20% avoiding foods rich in cholesterol (pork, lamb, organs, eggs, diary products rich in fat), consuming lots of fibers (they are reducing the absorbtion of cholesterol).
What you can eat: vegetables, starch, meat low in fat (chicken, cow), low fat fish, low fat diary products (under 2% fat preferably).
Vegetable oil does not have cholesterol but it is transformed in cholesterol in our liver, so avoid mayonnaise too, avoid fried foods.

The pills will have to deal with the rest of 80%. Statins are the drugs of choice. If you've just been diagnosed and started the treatment, you should be reevaluated after 6 weeks, then at 3 months interval, the dose should be adjusted til you reach the goals.

Other measures: walk daily at least 30 minutes, don't smoke

Take care

It has been proven that if you eat about 1/4 cup of nuts each day, it helps to lower cholesterol. A friend of mine had very high cholesterol and started eating a 1/4 cup of pecans every morning and it has lowered hers. Or you can eat cashews, walnuts, etc...Good Luck!

You'll have to change your diet number one - throw out the frying pan and any oils or fats you use must be very low in saturated fat and high in polyunsaturated fat. Buy cholesterol reducing products - they do work. A one-a-day yogurt drink by Benecol or Flore pro-active and also use their spreads and yogurts to further boost their effects. I think that Flora Pro-Active even have a milk or juice drink out now too. Good luck, I hope it comes down soon!

Go on an absolutely fat free diet for two weeks and then re-determine your cholesterol level. If it is still high then you probably have familial hypercholesterolemia (genetic) and need to be treated for it. If your cholesterol has decreased to levels within normal, then you need to go on a diet which restricts dietary fats like partially hydrogenated vegetable fats. LOL

Yes it can. I was just recently diagnosed with HBP also. My Doc prescribed Norvasc. It seems to work really well until...I go to the Doctor for a BP check and then it goes way up again..He has come to the conclusion that I also have "White Coat Syndrome" scared to death of Drs.. Maybe you have this also.. I always..ALWAYS get shakey, sweaty, rapid hear rate, etc. as soon as I step into the Dr.office..So yes, it can definitely affect your BP.. Nervousness plays a BIG role in the fluctuation of your Blood Pressure.. Good Luck~
