My husband has the same problem, he is 6 kg overweight. I have read that the chances of a stroke is high in the mornings. We don't want to take beta-blockers because of the side effects. Can anyone help?

Everything Normal but it is ABNORMAL. Probably your BP recording device is telling incorrect reading. Normally in the mornings when you get up from sleep with full rest the BP should be normal and in the day and evening due to various factors and happening it may be more.

This abnormality is very bad. you need not take beta-blockers or any other medicine, but there is nothing wrong in consulting a doctor and taking his advice. Also check up the pressure with another machine.

At any given time it should be 120/80 only. If you or your husband is above 55 to 60 it may slightly increase to the extent of 140/80. Please take care.-

Hi. I have always been told that a good healthy blood pressure is 110/70. Of course yours can be slightly higher than this and be okay too. The top number, systolic measures the blood pumping into the heart and the bottom number, diastolic, measures the blood as it pumps out of the heart. Some people, like me have a normal low blood pressure. Normally runs anywhere from 86/60 to the 90's/70. This can cause dizziness and a feeling like you are about to pass out if you stand up too quickly but they say it's ok. There are many conditions that can cause an elevated blood pressure...pain, anxiety, stress, being overweight and many more. If you have high blood pressure it is extremely important to keep a regular check on it because if it gets too high it can lead to strokes and heart attacks. There are many ways to keep it under control such as diet, exercise, stress management, weight loss, etc. There are also some really good medications out there that can help too. Your dr. should discuss all of this with you. I have known people that had very high blood pressure and just by living a healthier lifestyle they have brought it to a normal range.

Diet an exercise are supposed to be good for you. But you must first see a doctor to see if you are okay to do either or both. You may need to take a beta blocker, such as inderal, that has no side effects to speak of, I have been taking it for 8 years for prevention of migraines, and its wonderful, same medication used to control blood pressure. Ask your doctor about inderal, maybe then you won't be so scared of medications, due to side effects. Don't play with your blood pressure, the fluctuation is not good at all. Good Luck and God Bless. See your doc asap.

If you search the net you will find much informtation about alternative approaches to lowering blood pressure. I personally am an advocate of alternative medicine and natural therapy treatments as a first option but just keep in mind that orthodox medicine has its place and is sometimes the only sensible solution, especially when it comes to more serious and potentially life threatening conditions - after all, you dont go to a naturopath when you've been mangled in car wreck!

if you've had high blood pressure since forever, then technically that's "normal" for you. when you say they're normal in the evenings do you mean 120/80? avoid high salt containing foods for sure.

there are other drugs other than beta blockers that have been shown to work better for high blood pressure that aren't so harsh with side effects. it's understandable not wanting to take betablockers. but it doesnt make sense for you to go on a drug when you get normal blood pressure in the evenings. there might be another underlying reason to this, talk to your dr/pharmacist about it

180/110 is very high. are you saying that you are willing to risk a stroke or heart attack instead of taking beta-blockers????? that type of thinking just boggles my mind. better get on a doctor supervised diet and exercise plan asap. make sure the doctor OK's you for exercise, I would hate to see you have a stroke while out for your daily exercise.
