I LOVEEE DIM SUM. it's such a comfort meal and it's one of the few authentic chinese style meals that are actually served the genuine way in North America. The best things are lo baht go(pan fried taro cake), ha gau (shrimp dumpling), siu mai (pork and mushroom dumpling), jook and yau ja gwai (porridge and fried breadsticks to dip with), jaa wu tow (fried taro puffs), dan tahtt (egg custard), cha siu bao (made two ways: steamed fluffy bread filled with bbq glazed pork or baked soft bread filled with bbq glazed pork), lo may gai (glutinous rice, filled with many goodies such as sausage, egg, chicken, wrapped in a lotus leaf and steamed), mon gaw bo deen (mango pudding) and cheung fun (steamed noodles containing either shrimp, beef, or resteraunt's specialty. These are just a few of the many yummy options! I HIGHLY recommend going to eat dim sum and just watch all the little carts go by and pick whatever appeals to you! These are some of chinese people's favorites and i highly recommend them. :D

Dim Sum literally means "touch the heart", which is another way of expressing contentment. So it's almost a garanteed satisfing experience.
It has probably the most variations of bit sized morsels under one cuisine which encompass all chinese regions and ethnic backgrounds. There are literally hundreds of choices from steamed dumplings to fried cakes and buns to braised meats and baked pastries. You can have just a little or you can gorge til you drop. Some are very healthy but others are down right heart stoppers.
My personal choice : steamed spareribs with chili pepper and black beans. It's worst than eating potato chips as I can never stop until I'm waaaaay over the limit.

I love dim sum, especially chicken feet & rice soup that has thousand year old egg. The only downside to dim sum is the price. It's always overcharged. Breakfast/Brunch for 2 can run ~ $35 and you would be hungry in two hours. That's ridiculous.

Totally. Nothing beats hot piping dimsum fresh from the bamboo containers. There's such a variety, from shrimp dumplings (Har Gao), BBQ Pork Buns (Char Siew Pau), Pork Dumplings (Jiaozi), Chives Dumplings, Deep fried Taro puffs, Steamed Radish Cake, Glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf, Siew Mai (steamed pork dumpling in a thin wheat wrapper), Phoenix talons (Marinated Fried Chicken feet), Egg tarts, Rice Noodles (Cheong Fun) etc. But my favourite has got to be the Shanghainese Pork Dumplings (Xiaolongbao). Nibble the tip off and you will taste a soup broth within the dumpling. Finish up the broth, then dip your dumpling in vinegar and ginger. It's so good, I can assure you. Some restaurants even serve red bean dumplings or fried pancakes for those with sweet tooths. Dim sum is wonderful, especially when you have it with a pot of good Chinese tea (or Jasmine Tea), catching up with your family and friends.

Not sure what you mean by the covering or little bag but alot of dim sum are noodles wrapped around pork or other fillings and you eat the whole thing.

I find it a little too oily in some restaurants, but I have to say it's very satisfying. My favourites has to be har gow (Prawn dumplings) Lo Mai Kai (Glutinous rice with chicken inside), Lai You Pau (Steamed buns with custard inside), and Chee Cheong Fun (Rice flour rolls steamed with different fillings like prawn and bbq roasted pork inside served with soya sauce. There's just too many to name, but this few has to be my favourite.

It satisfies me...The one I like the most is the taro root stuffed with beef, pork and shitake mushrooms...It really crunchy and tender when you dip it into the hot sauce and its crispy with little flakes on the outer crust. One that i also like is the shrimp roll. Its stuffed with shrimp and water chestnuts and covered with a beancurd sheet thats crispy and really hot!
