Chinese people never put soysauce on white rice. It signifies one is poor and has nothing to eat other than the two of the most basic kitchen staples; rice and soy sauce. White rice is seasoned by other food dishes eaten with it. Are they not salty enough already?

Ewww! I don't eat soy sauce on white rice and I'm whiter than the rice! I will only put soy sauce on things other than rice and then maybe mix it all together...vegetables, fish, meat all with soy sauce and then rice.

JUST rice and soy sauce...sorry, I never heard of that...doesn't even sound nice. Put me down for one white vote against!

Maybe kids do that...kids eat anything and are always experimenting on what goes good together. But if some white people like it, then there isn't any reason they shouldn't do it...it doesn't really matter what people think...eat what you like...but it seems they could find something better than that.

I like white rice with just butter on it, with a little salt. I really don't like soy sauce, unless it's part of a Chinese dish aside from rice. Then it seems to fit just right.

Plain white rice is just well, plain. You say other dishes eaten with it season it. I like to grill chicken out on the grill and then cook rice to eat with it. How is a grilled piece of chicken going to season it? Sometimes I just feel like eating plain old rice with nothing else. The soysauce definitely gives it some taste.

You say Chinese never put soysauce on white rice coz it signifies one is poor and only has two basic staples, If you eat only rice, doesn't that make you poorer, because it signifies you only have one basic staple?

theres too many things that people say signify's different things, if you want to put soy sauce on your rice, do it...most likely makes the meal taste better, as in a Chinese restaurant they give you a mountain of rice, and is pretty bland in large quantaties.

Well, if I'm eating Chinese, generally I'm going to have fried rice with it, and just a little dab of soy sauce on everything. Now, white rice, I'd rather have butter and pepper, or gravy on. I reckon that's a Southern thang.

This is a cultural difference that really has no right or wrong answer if you look at it objectively. If your culture believes that eating rice with soy sauce implies that the person is poor, then that's your group's mindset. It doesn't mean that it's universally true for everyone everywhere.

It's the old "white versus black" as a color for mourning clothes argument. In some cultures, white is the proper color to wear to show respect for the deceased. In other groups, black is the acceptable color.

You're only "wrong" if you're wearing the wrong color (or eating soy sauce on your rice) when you're with the other culture.

I have no idea. When I cook rice I eat it plain or put another dish on top of it. Soy sauce is way too salty.

Actually a much better idea would be wild rice. It's Much healthier than white or brown, and it can be seasoned with fresh herbs and spices better than processed white or brown rice.
