You are taking atenolol and I presume hydrochlorothiazide (the 12.5 mg in your question). Beta blockers and 'duiretics' of this type most definitely do not affect triglycerides. That having been said I must give you a bit of history. Twenty years ago a series of studies suggested that beta blockers and hydrochlorothiazide had an adverse effect on triglycerides and / or cholesterol. These studies were misused by companies promoting a new classification of medications for high blood pressure. In fact what the studies found was that previous use of hydrochlorothiazide at up to 18 times the dose you are taking may have been a problem. With the dosages of hydrochlorothiazide and beta blockers in use today at the very worst there is a transient increase in numbers but no increase in cardiovascular risk. If you would additional information please let me know. I wish you the very best of health.
