I'm 16 and healthy, so I seriously doubt I'm having a heart attack. But I do have a painful lump in my throat and have been coughing a lot. Could it be mucus buildup? I also gave blood today...could that have anything to do with it?

The chest pain is very mild.
UPDATE: Now when I talk it sounds like I have my nose plugged.

If you were on the verge of getting sick, giving blood may have tipped the balance in the "bug's" favor. If you're coughing and generally feeling bad, then it's probably best to get to the doctor. Lastly, while it's very unlikely that a 16-year-old would have a heart attack, it's not impossible. If your chest pain is severe or feels like a crushing weight, if you're having severe breathing problems, or if the pain radiates down one or both arms, go to the ER to be safe!

I've given blood several times and never had pain in my chest or a painful lump in my throat.

Now, heart attacks can happen to young people.

Ask your parents to take you to a doctor: what you describe isn't normal in a healthy young person.

Good luck.

It could be congestive heart trouble. see your doctor because coughing, heart pain associated with mucos buildup are the symptoms for this illness.

I think it is nerves. If the symptoms persist then seek medical attention. Can you swallow? Are you having trouble breathing? Those are concerns. Maybe eat something, giving blood and leave you a little out of it.

It's possible, you will never know for sure unless you go see a doctor. I'm sure it's nothing serious, but still try going to see a doctor.
