I did the "vegetarian thing" when I was a teenager. It was mostly because some of my friends did too, and their arguments of "meat is murder" & "animals are my friends and I do not eat my friends" kinda swayed my very impressionable self.

I went a whole year before I even thought about eating meat, but the craving for a piece of pepperoni just wouldn't go away.

Nearly two years after that first craving, standing in line at the checkout at the grocery store I blurted out to my mom that I wanted to go to Taco Bell. She wanted to know what they had there that I would actually eat. I told her I wanted a Chicken Chalupa...so we went, and I ate not just one, but three. And then I cried.

My point is, that I think a true vegetarian will never miss meat because their reasons for doing it are so "true" that they could never do such a thing. For the "meat is murder" believers, they could no more eat a piece of chicken than they could kill their own mother and fry her up in a pan...okay, bad analogy, because we all have days where we'd like to do that, but you know what I mean.

Although I was swayed by their arguments, and came to believe them myself, I was converted to their way of thinking, and didn't really have the conviction to do such a thing on my own, so I couldn't stick with it.

A "true" vegetarian may miss the taste of meat, but they find wonderful ways of imitating the flavor without the use of animal products, in order to satisfy a tongue's need for flavor without compromising their beliefs.

Sometimes... and probably only for those who've recently become vegetarian. Personally, I LOVE the smell of a barbecue... but I think it's the sauce that smells good, not the meat. Bacon is the only other thing I miss... I loved the crunch of bacon.

No matter how much I miss the taste though, the texture grosses me out. When I went veggie, I told myself I'd still eat turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas (to satisfy my family mostly... I know... hypocritical...)... but last year I took one bite of turkey (which I used to love) and became instantly nauseated. It felt so gross on my tongue.

So anyway... if they could make a fake meat that tasted exactly like real meat, I'd probably eat it... but I'm certainly not going to stop being veggie cuz I remember that bacon tasted good. Some things are just a matter of willpower. Diabetics don't eat candy (well, most of 'em anyway), lactose intollerants don't eat ice cream, etc... we're not the only ones who "give up" something for a more important reason (whether it's health or ethics).

I do miss meat sometimes, but I just became veg less than 6 months ago.

Stuff like steak actually is pretty unappetising anymore, but fried chicken smells sooooo good and pork chops with stuffing and gravy and turkey sound soooo very good to me.

I just can't eat it, now that I know what most of them have to put up with before I eat them. It's just not worth it. I would rather just show a little mercy because I would hope someone would show mercy to me if I was them.

But yes, I do miss the taste of some meats. Although, I ate a salmon about 3 months ago and honestly didn't get even close to the same thrill that I used to from eating salmon. Go figure.

I don't--but being a vegetarian was my own choice. I think when people are forced into vegetarianism by the media or a significant other, they'd miss it. Meat is something I gave up because I didn't like it or the idea of it. Why would I miss it?

NO! I definetly do not miss the taste of meat.I don't even know how I was eating it before.I've always hated steak though,I think if someone likes steak then they really like meat, because it is the meatiest meat you can find, you have to be a real carnivore to like it.I know people who llike it all pink in the middle and still bloody and they don't use forks or knives they use their hands and mouth, then they suck the A-1 steak sauce off of the tips of their fingers, and while they are chewinf it and ripping it apart they are breathing deeply through their nose and I can hear them tearing apart the flesh and chewing it over and over.If I didn't know any better i would think it was a zombie tearing someones flesh apart.

It depends. I'm not sure if I'm a reliable source because I gave up vegetarianism in a matter of months. Still, it depended on the meat. I still gag at the smell of beef, but if I smelled chicken or sometimes turkey or duck, I really missed it.

No but that could be because I've always been a vegetarian.

The smell of meat makes me want to gag and hurl. Beef is the worst! Pork and fish are bad as well. I can handle the smell of poultry from a distance but not up close. The smell of cooked dead animals puts me off my appetite like no other.

There is a fish, steak and chip shop near where I go grocery shopping. I always have to hold my breath in the parking lot to avoid gagging on the smell of death and decay.

Not at all - to the contrary. If I mistakenly bite into meat, I know it right away. It tastes of blood, a strong metallic, nauseating taste. Even the smell of cooking flesh makes my stomach turn.

I became a vegetarian last June. I'll admit it, I sometimes do miss the taste of pepperoni, but that's about it, and usually a good soy pepperoni pizza cures me of that.

That aside, I don't really miss much of it.
