My boyfriend has been having Dry (unproductive) cough for nearly a year now. He has gone to multiple doctors, had chest X-rays, blood tests, and a Cat scan and everything comes back negative (meaning he has no signs of anything wrong). The cat scan was the most recent. He is getting extremely aggrivated and has no clue what it is and what to do. So far they have tried giving him Advair (didn't work), Albuterol (didn't work),Prednisone (didn't work), Ciproflauxin (didn't work), and he has tried cough drops, robitussen, Nyquil, dayquil, and other over the counter cough suppressants. If anyone has any idea or anything we can do please let me know. I am getting worried. The cough just keeps getting worse and it seems there is no end to this in the near future since the Doctor's are just saying "here try this" over and over with no results.

Please tell me all you can

I'm no expert, but i have had the same problem for a while, until i found out that my sinuses were leaking into my throat irritating it thus making me cough this was due to my smoking habit, so it could be that. Or it could be physiological, i knew i guy once who coughed just to get attention from his mother when he was young but this passed on into his adulthood, and could not stop coughing until he saw a shrink. That's the only possibilities i can think of, hope this helps. Good luck.

By the way, could he be allergic to the house dust mite? It lives even in the cleanest of households and does affect some people in the way you describe. I take it you have no pets he could be allergic to.
